I don't mean "scariest looking" or "jumped from a vent". I mean "eitherfightthisorsetselfonfire-fuckitwhere'sthegasoline". Enemies that make you sit on the edge of your seat because you don't want to encounter it.

Mine is the poison headcrab from Halflife 2. The prospect of losing nearly all of my health from one bite made me turn my speakers all the way up so I could hear the evil hissing.

Odd, the Poison Headcrabs were my first thought too. Those things were the scariest part of Ravenholm, honestly.

After that, it's probably the ReDeads from Ocarina of Time. That scream sound they make, with the slow, deliberate walk towards you, makes every room with them feel like a dead end (even *with* the song that stuns them).

Not sure what the scariest is, but I would say the first time I've really had a feeling of terror from an enemy in a game is the Dopefish from Commander Keen 4. Seriously.

Bloodsucker from the Stalker series.

You hear this weird panting and footsteps, you see a shimmer and start spraying the place with bullets. Thinking you've killed whatever was causing the noise a smug grin appears across your face as you reload, and then you get ripped apart by Zoidberg's evil, invisible, brother.

Sure the words 'You are dead' immediately appear across the screen and you just reload your quicksave, but thats not the point.

that spider from limbo. not only did it make me think i had actually died (when it wrapped me up in its webbing), but when i finally kill it, it makes me think its still alive and has me too scared to go near it! not to mention going near it, ripping its last leg off, and then rolling its body in a ditch so i can continue onwards

Redeads were my first choice. First the ones from Ocarina of Time and also the ones from The Wind Waker. I'm not terrified of them anymore, but i used to be so scared of redeads, that i was to scared to do the Earth Temple in Wind Waker. But now its more like the enemys from Minecraft. I don't just mean creepers, i mean all of them! Anything in the darkness is freaky!

Because my perspective changed on videogames as a whole when I dissected a Half Life 2 level in SourceSDK, video game NPCs of any sort now have a significantly harder time making me empathize with any situation they generate.
Fast Zombies however were the last enemy I recall which genuinely disturbed me.

Wrathful Spirits from Martigen's Monster Mod for Oblivion.

You hear their empty, airy wails from like 200 feet away, but they're really hard to see, and when they see you, they fly towards you super quick and you get paralyzed for like 20 seconds.

Leaving me vulnerable for the other monsters' sexual advances. (SOME 18+ MODS ARE NOT MEANT TO BE USED!!!!!!!!!!!!)

The dogs in Silent Hill 2 irked me pretty well.

But the enemy that has made me panick and go "Ohshitohshitohshitohshit" would be those bastard Gargantutars from Plants vs Zombies.

The Grinning Colossus. Your weapons don't hurt him! Plus he's there, grinning. And being big.

Anything from Dead Space. I know the title sort of implies I'm not supposed to say that, but just looking at them, they are disturbing, disgusting creatures. I hate facing any of them.

Then there's the Big Daddy. Let's face it, no one is ever ready to face one. We all just take a chance and if we kill it, it was sheer luck that our "plan" worked out.

The Regenerators from RE4. Powerful attacks, nearly invincible and utterly terrifying to look at.

The scariest enemy is always the enemy unseen. Once you know what your opponent is, the element of fear is lost, then they just become either disturbing, frustrating, or simply another enemy in need of bullets.

That said, of all the enemies I've fought in various games the ones which freak me out the most are probably the Midwife in System Shock 2.

probably that big monster from dead space 1 that keeps following you and you cant kill it until you reached a certain place or deathclaws from fallout new vegas ,because they take 1/3 of my hp with one hit and it takes a s***load of ammo to kill them ,but after a while they just got annoying and i loaded my save whenever i met one.
