List who you feel are the underrated actors or actresses. The people that you don't really hear anyone normally talk about or say "they're my favorite." That means NO Gary Oldman, that's way too easy. Every actor and their dog cite him as an inspiration. I have two:

Ben Kingsley
(Sneakers, Schindler's List, Shutter Island, House of Sand and Fog, he turned Suspect Zero into an awesome movie)
He's won several awards, and yet no one really talks about him

Ed Harris
(Just Cause, the Rock, the Abyss, Apollo 13, the only good part about Appaloosa and History of Violence)

Erm... Ben Kingsley is now Sir Ben Kingsley (also won an oscar for Ghandi which is probably his most famous role) .... I wouldn't exactly call him under-rated or ignored... Just Sayin...

For me I think James Callis hasn't been rewarded much for his role as Gaius Baltar in Battlestar Galactica... He really was excellent and I'm surprised his career hasn't really kicked off since.

And William Fichtner surely deserves a lead role in a film by now no?

Sam Rockwell, I guess.

And for the record, Hayden Christensen is really fucking good in Shattered Glass. But Peter Saarsgard (spelling?) was probably better in it, so him.

Kurt Russell. The Thing, Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China are brilliant films, all because of Kurt Russell (and John Carpenter of course)

James Woods. If you don't know who I'm talking about (not that I blame you) go watch Videodrome and Once Upon a Time in America.

he said underrated. you don't get much more "A List" and respected than those 2, short of proclaiming them gods.

OT: Bruce Campbell. he's the greatest anti-Shatnerian actor of our time.

Lol....

I would think my troll statement would be perhaps too obvious. Guess not.

Peter Stormare.

That man, is a LEGEND.

I don't see him very often but he steals the god damn movie every time he appears.

Alan Rickman. I know he is well known and well regarded but he has NEVER been nominated for an Academy Award, which is a sacrilege

Charlie Sheen.

Especially now.

I just watched "Wall Street", and his emotional breakdown as he was led away by the cops towards the end was an excellent piece of acting. Also, the way he acts so sincere and serious in the Hot Shots movies is perfect.

I'd say Damien Lewis. He was Mayor Winters, from Band of Brothers. And in that awful movie Dreamcatcher.

OT, definitely Thomas Jane. Most people remember him for either Deep Blue Sea or The Punisher (neither of which required much in the way of acting chops), but he was goddam brilliant in The Mist. Anyone who got through that ending without tearing up is a heartless monster.
When I watched the mist at a friends house we were completely unmoved by the ending, It was the 'Christian' lady that completely ruined any semblance of empathy with the characters, (we were all Christians watching it and were dumbfounded at virtually all of her actions and dialogue) turning it into more of a joke film than anything, and after about half an hour we just fast-forwarded through all the dialogue to the monster scenes, chatting over it like a bunch of ADD teenagers. By the time we got to the end we hated everyone and giddily laughed at the ending. It probably was a good movie, and he acted well in it, but we weren't in the mood for a reflective psychological horror.

On topic, the late Peter Postlethwaite (the usual suspects, Inception and a million other films) It was his role as Sam Worthingtons father in Clash of the Titans that I realised how good he actually is, he blew all the other actors out of the water.

well, i figured either you misread or you were trolling. but it was pretty weak trolling, since it wasn't likely to annoy anyone, since most anyone would assume the same i did. either way, you'd benefit from feedback.

That's the thing though, as I mentioned in my post, he's won many accolades for several of his films (Ghandi, Sexy Beast, House of Sand and Fog) but I guarantee no one in the general public knows who he is. And Suspect Zero, if you haven't seen that, I'll bet dollars to donuts you'll think he's some sort of acting genius afterwards.

inb4 Nathan Fillion

I actually think John Hannah is fabulous. I loved him in Four Weddings and a Funeral and every time I see him, usually in bit parts, I think he does great.

Joel Kinnaman.

I barely know the guy from watching The Killing the other day. He has an ominous depraved face worth a million depraved dollars (and then some!). So much creepyness in just one piece of human being should be celebrated.

It's cringe inducing to see his delivery but especially so as he hits on unsuspecting tweeny little girls...ew...I just remembered...

Just look at the guy:

Now go and watch The Killing and prepare to get creeped the fuck out by one of the good guys.
