Divine Divinity.

I'll bet most people wont have even heard of the game itself, but give it a shot and just listen to the videos I've linked. One of the best fantasy soundtrack I've ever heard in a game:

I find it funny this relatively obscure (Although still quite successful) Belgian rpg released eight years ago still has a more distinctive soundtrack than most major-budget products being released today.

And while not a huge fan of the whole 8-bit soundtrack thing, I gotta admit those are pretty catchy.

I only heard of that when I bought the sequel, Ego Draconis.

OT: I'm not sure, but some of the X3: Terran Conflict music is pretty good. I could stay in Kingdom End for a long while.

Apart from some of the more popular Final Fantasy and Mario songs I think most videogame soundtracks are underrated. It's a shame, really. There's some great musical talent there and I think even people that don't play games would like most of it, given it's their style of music.

With all the love that the Final Fantasy games usually get in the music department, the music in one of their other 16 bit masterpieces tends to get criminally ignored. That masterpiece would be Secret of Mana.

I much prefer the original myself. Look it up if you've never tried it!

Surprisingly yes. Plays sort of like a mix between the original Fallout games and Diablo 2, very well put together, plenty of roleplaying opportunities, tons of fun abilities, an interesting plot, fantastic 2D visuals, loot aplenty, and as mentioned already a fantastic soundtrack.

It's only real flaws are that A: It's not very newbie friendly and B: The voice acting sucks.

But if you're a fan of either Fallout or Diablo then it's certainly worth checking out. And if you're a fan of both, it's practically mandatory!

Available on Good Old Games too, dirt cheap! Can't get much better than that!

The menu track from Far Cry 2 sounded amazing to me.
Also the Halo ODST soundtrack was spectacular, and easily the best thing about the game.

Elder scrolls IV: Oblivion Soundtrack composed by Jeremy Soule. The Guild Wars soundtrack isn't bad either, Jeremy Soule makes amazing music.

I'm not sure how much its been talked about as I just got the game but the Mass Effect soundtrack was surprisingly good.

Especially the C-Sec piece.

Edit: The last song in the OP was like if Doctor Who met The Terminator.

Not many people tend to think over the fact that the Ratchet and Clank soundtracks are pretty damn awesome:

The best game soundtrack I have ever heard is The Terminator on Sega CD, seriously, it's got amazingly good rock tracks, they didn't even attempt to make it suit the atmosphere or the franchise, they just went all out on making awesome. I really wish it would've been attached to a better game (not too shabby a game though mind you) because it would be considered classic.

I'm going to say Castle Crashers. Possibly known because of its phenomenal soundtrack, but I'm going to count it anyway because the game itself is underrated.
