My love of this game despite the poor reviews makes me think I need to give KINGDOM UNDER FIRE: CIRCLE OF DOOM and maybe even DARK MESSIAH OF MIGHT AND MAGIC a chance. I didn't pay much attention to them on release due to poor reviews, but I tried the demo to KUF earlier tonight, and I think it might actually be up my alley.
I'm sorry but i can NOT agree with you on KUF: Circle of Doom. If you've played the prequel; KUF: Heroes, it's a real insult how retarded they made the gameplay. It's all way too easy, the plot is as shallow as the pol of drool made by me when sleeping, and it's all just too fucking similar. I mean come on, I can live with linearity, but make me go through the same little pathways time and time again but just slap a different environment on it and a couple other enemies does not make me immediately think I'm in a completely different world of the game altogether. It made me feel like the designers thought I WAS one of those idiots who couldn't tell these were the same areas over and over again because they put a new nice looking scenery around it. It's an insult to my intelligence, especially when I'm used to the strategic aspect that Heroes had going, and had it going pretty well I must say. And don't even get me started on the monotone music they put in...
All in all this game was a waste of money for me. I like beat 'em up games a fair bit, don't try to paste a storyline or anything to it please. If you want to do beat 'em ups, design games like Dynasty Warriors or N3, but please don't destroy the KUF series with it.

I have to agree that the darkness was amazing.

I also think that shadowrun was under-rated, due to no singleplayer, but TF2, CSS and other games have no single player but are loved all the same. This game still is my favourite online fps, the ppl on it aren't screaming 10 years olds and it just fun to play.

Viva Pinata is another, one of my favourite games of all time.

Nothing I believe everything is judged fairly.

Err, have you taken the fact that game reviews as well as people's perception of games are all subjective personal opinions into consideration?

The Darkness: I think a lot of people overlooked this as "just another FPS", but the story, atmosphere and characters made this a bit of a gem. Plus it has Mike Patton on it.
Seconded. Most delicious FPS for the 360.

Though I liked Perfect Dark Zero, I wouldn't say it was underrated, more like, overrated. It didn't feel like Perfect Dark to me.
the darkness would have been the best game, if after you kill your... um... dont want to ruin it for anyone who cares... if you could go BACK and kill any civilians you wanted. i would kill those in the subway station, i could never hurt them and they all were really creepy

Saints Row, it looks like a thugged up version of GTA, but upon closer inspection, I an admitted "Hater of all things Thugin/Pimpin" found a really enjoyable game. The car chases were more fun than GTA, the Gun/Aiming system was fun and I found I was actually interested in elements of the story, as it seemed like the characters were actually taking it seriously, though occasionally their toungues were planeted FIRMLY in their cheeks. Also I enjoyed how, unlike GTA, stupid little things like Drug Dealing, Assassinations etc. were all optional side missions as opposed to unintegral but still required parts of the story (I'm looking at YOU GTA4)
For an unashamed GTA clone I found this very enjoyable.

honestly i thought two worlds was not underated as much as it was really bad. but thats my opinion.
-nintey nine nights i agree is forgotten goodness
-crackdown i will say alot of people probably thought was crap due to the halo 3 multiplayer beta thing but was really awsome
-tenchu z people never really talk about but it's a really good game
-earth defence force is one of the most fun simple games i've ever laid hands on
-army of two, for a game getting very mediocre reviews it sure sold alot of copies and i for one loved it
-saints row i don't know if it qualifies as underrated simply because it comes up almost every time gta comes up as having done alot of stuff gta simply ignored.

I love that game. It's pretty good. Have you ever read the comic?

Also:

CRACKDOWN: This game wasn't exactly badly reviewed or badly received, but I doubt it was a big enough deal that they'll make a sequel. And that's a damn shame, because Crackdown is awesome! Yeah, the enemies are all kinda the same and there's zero story -- but so what? Again, a decent story is fine if it really works with the game, but I just want a good game, and I'm partial to sandboxes. As a sandbox, CRACKDOWN is virtually unparalleled. Despite ugly early screenshots, the graphics and visual style of the world actually turned out quite beautiful, and what's more, it has some of the most impressive draw distances I have ever seen in a game like this (much better than GTAIV.) The sheer joy of leaping about the city, picking up trucks and hurling them into enemies or off of bridges, or climbing by hand the game's tallest structures, is not a thing to be dismissed. The hundreds of power-up orbs scattered around for you to collect at random make the game weirdly addictive once you start playing, and after I bought Crackdown it was literally all I could play for weeks. I love that you can defeat the gangs in any order you like. There is definitely a difficulty curve though, and some of the final bosses are hell to get through (the last especially.) This game also gets too little credit for its seamless, milky-smooth gameplay -- targeting is more intuitive than GTA, including the targeting of specific body parts. Combat is more fun than GTA, exploration is more rewarding than GTA, and the basic play control is more intuitive than GTA. Don't get me wrong, I love GTA as well, and Crackdown isn't the same exact thing -- I think of it as part GTA, and part HULK ULTIMATE DESTRUCTION (for those who remember that weirdly fun Xbox 1 game) -- but the bottom line is that Crackdown is a blast to play. Check it out if you haven't -- playing the Demo is a decent way to gauge whether or not it'll hold your interest.

.
i agree crackdown rocked, TPS/SPS, with rpg elements = classic

Prey it gets no credit at all and did more than Portal did inside of a full length game long before Portal ever came out.
yes but Portal was amazing due to the story and the humor, it wasn't necessarily about the ability to displace space.
watch yahtzee's orange box review for the best review ive personally heard of the game

Halo 3: Totally unhyped, top quality epic story line with overly brilliant campaign missions. Amazing character devlopment and absoloutely astonishing weapon design and AI. Unbuggy and clean multiplayer.

/sarcasm off

Although the multiplayer isn't THAT bad.

Circle of Doom, for me, felt a lot like a Gauntlet game. If you like to demolish 40 foes at a time spinning around and using powered skills, then this would be your genre. It was a little stale though. Kill 100 dudes, level up, kill another 100 dudes. About 500 dudes and you might hit a boss. Killing a certain amount of a certain foe will get you new skills, but pressing X a million times can pretty much beat anything. The graphics are really cool though. They aren't like "zoom in detailed" graphics, but more like a lighted sort of Heavenly glow on everything that makes it look more detailed than it could have, and it's executed really well. It would depend on if you like the genre.

I dont really know many games that i thought were good that everyone else didnt: Mass Effect, Oblivion, and Halo 3 were good but they were supposed to be.

Purely subjective of course; here's some of mine. Feel free to post yours.

NINETY-NINE NIGHTS: There are certain genres that rarely review well, and one of them seems to be the action-RPG button-masher. This game got trashed by the critics, and certainly in fairness it is a repetitive, often mindless game, full of bad voice acting and home to more than one unfortunate programming decision. That said, I LOVED THIS GAME. Dashing down into a distance-blurred-but-rapidly-focusing onslaught of hundreds upon hundreds of enemies, turning yourself into a colorful tornado of blades, fire, and magic blasts, and watching the ragdoll corpses hurtle off confetti-like by the dozens -- is pure, bright, eye-popping, arcade-style fun. I also love games where there are tons of character customization options (as well as numerous selectable characters), and hundreds of random items to collect and tinker with. I know not all of them make that big of a difference really, and that many aren't necessary at all, but it's just one of those things I enjoy. The graphics in this fairly early 360 release are also quite beautiful, and even if the stages overall lack a little imagination, the game has an atmosphere that wins me over. I can laugh off the goofy story and atrocious voice acting -- I play games for the fun of playing games, not for a great plot, so that aspect doesn't bother me. What does bother me is when they encumber a fantasy game with an obnoxious neu-metal rock soundtrack, so N3 also gets points for a tasteful, ambient/pseudo-orchestral score, which even includes some Vivaldi. There's no question this is not a game for everyone, but all I can say is I played it start to finish, maxing out all 7 characters and beating the game, and I had an absolute blast (pretty much) the whole time.

My love of this game despite the poor reviews makes me think I need to give KINGDOM UNDER FIRE: CIRCLE OF DOOM and maybe even DARK MESSIAH OF MIGHT AND MAGIC a chance. I didn't pay much attention to them on release due to poor reviews, but I tried the demo to KUF earlier tonight, and I think it might actually be up my alley.

.
Sorry, can't agree with you there.

Gave it a try and hated it (N3). But there's the magic of opinion.

Probably Dead Rising. This is easily one of my favorite games on the 360 or any other console to date. All it's about is killing zombies in a mall and the game proudly acknowledges that with pride. It's campy, cheesy, and all in all, nothing but a fun time.

Assassin's Creed would be my number 2. A lot of people gave AC a verbal beatdown over its repetitive gameplay. I never really noticed. I guess I was to engrossed in the fantastic plot.

I almost forgot about The Darkness. Thanks for reminding me.

Another game for me in which the plot made it all worthwhile.
