So today, the 14th of March, is Mother's Day (at least here in the UK, don't know about the rest of the world).

A day where you get your mum a card, maybe some chocolate / flowers and generally show your appreciation for her.

I myself went with chocolates and a card, and just got done cleaning up the kitchen for her whilst she chatted with some friends over coffee. Later on we are going out for a meal with my nan as well.

Do you have Mother's Day where you are from? Are you doing anything nice for your mother today?
Any nice stories to share about reasons why your mother deserves some appreciation?

I'm sick so I can't do much. I gave my brother £20 though to spend for her so it better be good.

To be completely honest i forgot about mothers day till yesterday, so i had a master plan after i finished work i would get something on the way home from work .... but it appears sainsburys isn't open at 8am. so going to have to get her some flowers and chocolates later.

please don't hate me for forgetting but i have worked a 6 nightshifts in a row and your mind tends to die after that.

For my step mother, I got a card and West Side Story, because she likes musicals.
For my mum, I got a card and The Omen Trilogy, because she likes horror films.
I'll walk to my mum's house later to give her the card and gift.

I haven't spoken to mine in six years, so no.

Sent my stepmother in Jordan an email though.

I don't believe in getting my mom, or anyone in town anything for days like these. If I'm there in person to tell them how much they mean to me, a card can fuck right off.

My mum hates mothers day and calls it a "hallmark holiday". She once said that my brother and I's love and respect mean more to her than a card ever will.

I know what you both mean, it does feel like a 'holiday' invented just to shift cards and chocolates.

But, I guess it couldn't hurt. A couple of quid once a year and a day of being extra nice to the woman who raised you isn't exactly a travesty :)

I gave my mother a card and a box of chocolates.

Me, my mother and my father went out to eat yesterday, so there's no point in going out again today (also, it was £81, that's quite expensive)

I baked her a queen of puddings when I finished work last night and left it on the table for her to find in the morning.

Well I'm away at uni, so I've sent her a card and I'll give a call later, just to remind her that I'm coming home in a week or so. You know, so she can stock the house with food and get ready to make me some sunday roast...
It ain't easy being a student, the food is terrible.

She wouldn't let me forget it if I didn't get her anything. So flowers and dvds should keep her happy. I don't really do cards, they're either too cute or the message is too cheesy.

I got her a card and a Willow Tree figure, she collects them. I also made her a peanut butter and jam sandwich because, for some reason, she loves them.

I got her a book that was on the recommended shelf at Waterstones. I can't buy stuff for my family because I have little in common with them and don't know what they like.

Me neither, but since I haven't moved out yet, I have to do something.

Everyone I saw while Mother's Day shopping yesterday, I wanted to kill.

I got her The Red Shoes, A Matter of Life and Death, Brief Encounter and various others including Hamlet as part of the J arthur Rank 70th anniversary boxset.

I'm a big Powell and Pressburger fan and Brief Encounter's the best and most classy "chick flick" ever so i thought she'd probably enjoy them

I didn't bother with a card and never do because they're not only a waste of paper and money but they mean basically nothing. i'd far rather give one thoughtful gift than a shite card and a mediocre gift.
