With the onset of Motion Controls for every major console I'm sitting on the fence wondering how I feel about them in the long run.

I like motion controls, I own a Wii and it's fun. The Tiger Woods games are awesome and the capacity for multiplayer splitscreen fun on the same console (a feature getting repeatedly punched in the face by developers focusing on online play) is great. However where does Motion Control stand when it comes to "Hardcore" games?
When I say "Hardcore" I simply mean games which people sit down and learn how to play. Games like Modern Warfare and Street Fighter where you find people who know every nuance of the game and like going online (or playing friends) and destroying people. Can Motion Control as a medium with dumbed down movements be learned to the same extent?
Controllers themselves are a medium which translates button presses to actions so they are indeed dumbed down as well, but for a very specific reason: I do not know karate, but I can pick up a controller and, with almost zero physical movement, control someone who does to a varying degree. I can improve my fake karate by learning button combinations and, far more quickly than if I had tried to learn karate myself, compete against my friends or strangers online via awesome martial arts.

This to me is one of the points of gaming, the ability to have the fun of doing something I could never do (or could not do without years of training) with zero repercussions like injury or death for the more dangerous stuff.

The point is; with physical movement being added are we negating the pick up and playability of certain games. Will fatigue become a factor in fighting games? Will physical reflexes become more important in shooters? Yes they are important now but only on a small scale, no matter how physically fit I am my thumb moves at pretty much the same speed.

Well that's my thoughts anyway, share your own! What do you think of motion controls in the long run? Is the physicality of games a good/bad thing?

definately. there's no way you could play a vast amount of games we have now using motion controls. and that's aside from the fact that not everyone wants to jump about while playing games. i play games to relax, and that can;t happen if i'm trying not to accidentally put my fist through the tv screen.
