Right now I am making a thread on the Escapist Magazine gaming website instead of doing my English holiday homework. How do you guys find the motivation to do the necessary work and not read mindless drivel about what your favourite weapon is?

Edit: Mind you it doesn't help when English is chronically retarded.

There comes a point where self-control takes over and the pressure of "I've put this off long enough and done enough dicking around; if I don't do this there will be serious negative consequences" means I finally do it. You could always not do it, then use the "F" you'll get as motivation.

I always just do something as soon as I have the opportunity to, I also try to create opportunities.

My motivation is to unplug the Internet. That basically stops most distractions.

Of course, it makes finding information harder, so there's always the downsides to any plan.

Puh! you clearly don't know how to procrastinate! I procrastinate to about an hour from it's needing to be done. Then I procrastinate some more. It usually gets done a few days later, but not always.

But what do you do when you have a large assignment spread out over a long period of time?

Already the afternoon buddy.

Motivation is probably my biggest problem in school. Does anyone have any methods that work for them that don't involve waiting until the deadline is around the corner?

Tell yourself over and over you will be doomed to working in fast food the rest of your life if you don't get started now!
Well when I was in school, I found it helped to do my school stuff first. Okay actually I would eat then do school stuff right away afterwards. I rarely procrastinated.
