There is currently a low-budget indie game in its final stage of development called Mount and Blade. It is a realistic medieval combat simulator, in which you navigate around a world map, and take part in real-time third person battles. You design your character, and start off in a small neutral city, where you learn the basics, and can buy weapons and armor, and take place in arena battles. The fun starts when you set forth with a rag-tag band of untrained soldiers, and start making a name for yourself by battling low-strength parties such as river pirates. Eventually, you can join a faction of your choosing, and battle other factions by attacking their cities, armies, supply trains ect. Currently however it is sort of a "sandbox" game, since while there are many quests, there is no defined ending. An ending may or may not be implemented in the final version, which should be released soon. Even without an ending, the game is immensely fun and addicting, as if you get bored of one type of character, you can just make another. I have been following the game since some of the earliest versions, downloading the newer versions as they come out, and am anxiously awaiting final release. Check out the game here! If you like medieval type stuff, $10 is well worth it.
