Recently, my old workhorse has been playing up a bit after about five years of service. As such I'm going to be in the market for a new mouse, preferably sturdy, with a good, smooth scroll and a good middle click for under £50. I have no preferences on extra buttons, but they are welcome. Any recommendations?

It would be nice to know what you want out of a mouse. Do you want a standard mouse with only right left and scroll? Do you want one with a bunch of buttons? Do you want one with the extra 2 buttons on the side? What is your price range?

My mouse is a Gigabyte GM-M6800. It is a nice sturdy mouse, and works on most surfaces. It has two extra buttons, like I prefer. I got it off of Amazon. I would recommend it.

That seems quite similar to my current mouse. How's the scroll and middle click?

It's great. The scroll is decently fast and not sticky or anything and the click is just fine. It isn't hard to press down on or anything and you usually don't accidentally scroll when you do use it.

I can't seem to find my exact model, but I use a Logitech Wireless Anywhere Mouse. Mine looks exactly like that, but the button below the scroll wheel is platinum.

The button below the scroll wheel opens new tabs, kinda like clicking the scroll wheel on other mice. Clicking the mouse wheel switches between segment and fluid scrolling. Fluid scrolling is HYPER FAST, when you want that. I typically stay in the segment scrolling mode. Clicking is responsive and easy. But I use a laptop so it works for me.

If using a desktop pc, Razer mice are good. Particularly the Razer Naga and Razer DeathAdder mice.

I've only used the Razer Naga a few times at a friend's house, but it works brilliantly. Admittedly, I've never used a DeathAdder but a friend of mine loves to gush about how much he loves it.

Edit: Oops, I missed the price req in the OP. Feel free to ignore my post, should you so desire. :x

I currently use a cooler master storm inferno.

It's a really good mouse for the money, even though the name is incredibly stupid.

The pictures are a little misleading though. From the pictures it looks like a wireless mouse, but it is in fact wired.

Other than that, it's has tons of programmable buttons, which I really love. The middle click and scroll wheel are good. The middle click is a little hard to press down, but that's one of the things I like about it because it prevents you from accidentally clicking it, and prevents you from accidentally scrolling while clicking it.

Anyway, I really like it and it has served me great over the last 2 years.

I've switched completely to cheap mice after having two Roccat Kone mice fail (second one free replacement for first one, both faulty wheel axle, used too cheap plastic) as well as having a Microsoft X8 mouse (replacement for Roccat Kone + 10?) explode after a half meter drop onto thick carpet... (well, it cracked open wide, must've had extreme tensions from the injection molding process)
On the other hand we recently replaced a Logitech MX510 with a G5 because it was just old and its surface extremely damaged from hand sweat. Other than that nothing could destroy that thing.

So I'm currently using either a Sharkoon Fireglider or a "Anker Precision Laser Gaming Mouse" and am perfectly happy with them.
Imo, either go cheap or go Logitech (or Razer).

wired: mx518
wireless: marathon m705
simple, cheap and work well
I had the MX518 for a while but the wire started acting up so I got an m705 which is more of a general purpose wireless mouse.
