As an alternative to the testosterone filled thread similarly named, I thought we could instead list our favourite Chick Flicks! Despite my aggressive header, men are actually welcome to offer suggestions.

Remember people, this is a safe environment so let's try to keep this as pg as we can and definitely no explosions.

On a more serious note, let me start with some movies that influenced my childhood.

1. Clueless
I basically wanted to be Cher Horowitz and her awesome wardrobe and a hot step brother and a sassy best girlfriend. Looking back, the 90s were pretty fucking atrocious.

2. Miss Congeniality
Man, Sandra Bullock was so badass and cute. she still is.

3. Dirty Dancing
Who didn't want to be Frances in this movie? The dancing, the music, the romance and a swoon worthy Patrick Swayze.

4. Pitch Perfect
A more recent movie, inspired by Glee before everyone laughed at people who said they still watched Glee, Pitch Perfect is a perfect(ahah, get it?) mix of humour, light hearted romance and entertaining singing. Let's have a moment of silence for those who lost hours of their lives trying to learn the cup song(not me, shut up).

5. Sugar and Spice
I've been recently thinking about this movie and talking about it with friends; remember that movie with those teenage cheerleaders robbing a bank? The decisive answer was "Yes, I fucking loved that movie!". Conclusion...
best crime movie ever. what's this godfather bullshit?

This is from the top of my head, but what are your favourite chick flicks?

White Girls. That one was great fun.

I mean, if I watched it again it'd probably be complete shit, but it was pretty amusing at the time. That whole quiche scene...ah, now that's comedy.

Bridget Jones' Diary. Pretty darn funny movie, as long as you can endure the way Renée Zellweger won't pronounce the letter R.

"Move *****" in that male voice will never not make me laugh. Truly a 21st century classic.

I would absolutely suggest " Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" and "Jab We Met". Both of those titles are amazing stories of love, differences of people, and how two people can see past themselves and care about each other. And they have musical numbers. And they are really good.

Muriel's wedding- funny and genuinely sweet

My best friends wedding- not as good but still an amusing watch

Sister act 1/2- because why not?

Gravity- because why not have "serious" film here [quote/]

Remember people, this is a safe environment so let's try to keep this as pg as we can and definitely no explosions.

gravity doesn't have explosions because there's no oxygen is space!

OT: I know this is just a light hearted thread and maybe the implications of the other grated me a bit too much but I'm not really a fan dividing genres by gender

that's not to say some movies don't appeal to one gender more than the other...I just find its way too reminiscent of stupid stereotypes we've all had to endure

Amelie (2001) - HELL fucking YEAH!

Stardust (2007) - WOOOOOO!!!

Nancy Drew (2007) - Wait, there's an explosion in this one. ERROR 404

I actually have all of those on Blu-ray or DVD--aaah I can't stop listing these mov--

-

The Last Seduction (1994) - Linda Fiorentino as the bad girl. Love her.

The Descent (2005) - No explosions here. Highly recommended. An all-female primary cast. Much learning and hand holding occurs.

Housebound (2014) - What can I say, this movie is a riot, plus it's pretty funny.

Jessabelle (2014) - Huh, another movie about a woman stuck in a house. The symbolism is--this one's kind of sca--

The Babadook (2014) - Do you see what happened here? I started off with fun movies but these last four are actually pretty scary.

I don't know if it's necessarily something you need to watch before you die, it might even be worth waiting until you're a super scary zombie, but I quite liked My Sister's Keeper (2009).

I don't really have alot of experience with chick flicks... can I make a list of things I think women should see anyways?

I'll start with Mama. I found that there were really excellent moments both horrific and touching, and a very sympathetic but still utterly terrifying monster. It's most definitely a horror movie, so again in all seriousness if someone (irregardless of gender) doesn't like horror, then this won't likely win you over, but there you go. But the overarching theme of family... hit me right in the feels, man.

My special ladyfriend loves Perfume. It's one of the only horror (well, horror-ish) movies she enjoys, and I respect that- it's a great tale.

Dangerous Liaisons was an awfully good watch- the acting is superb, and the story is deliciously depraved. A classic, with powerful characters.

I'm sorry, I know it's got explosions AND it's on my boy's list, but if you want an empowered woman dealing with a hard situation (well, fighting for her life), then Alien has to also be on this list. I consider it a must see for a human of any gender, I guess.

I also really enjoyed Ginger Snaps, a great look at lycanthropy and a woman coming of age- and it's entertaining horror.

Again, not sure if this is necessarily just for the ladies- it certainly isn't chick flicks- but I really do enjoy these threads!

EDIT: I also absolutely love Drop Dead Gorgeous- an awesome female cast and a total lampooning of traditional values and customs. Solid comedy in the tradition of Spinal Tap- actually, I think this might be funnier, or at least a more solid story ( but, you know, Spinal Tap is awesome).

EDIT EDIT: How could I forget Interview With The Vampire? Brilliant movie, both a young Brad Pitt and an appropriately crazy yet still charming Tom Cruise, and amazing settings... I could have just left it at moody, hunky immortals.

Why only females? Are you suggesting men are not allowed to watch those movies?
I feel insulted that you would imply that somehow men are too inferior to watch those movies. Im pretty sure a lot of men can handle this stuff.

Why cant males enjoy those movies as well? Im just asking a question here!

I find this entire thread questionable and problematic.

Stop oppressing me!

OT: Gravity i guess, seeing how about 80% of the movie is focused on the women. Though i guess some might be put off by the whole "man is and expert, women is a bumbling fool" - then again, its nice to see this perspective reversed :p

The new hobbit is also kinda fun.

Girls Just Want to Have Fun(1985): It has this one line that I will always remember, "Let's all hear it for steroids. And now, the news!" I think it still holds up surprisingly well.

No boys allowed? Awwww, sniffle.

OT: I guess Mama Mia if you are into ABBA's songs (Good songs, terrible movie though).

I know I might get flak for it, but watch Gone Girl. Seriously go watch it. The actors in it do such a good job that you completely forget sometimes that they are just actors. Everything about the movie is good, the story, the twist at the end, the acting. Ladies (and whatever boys are present here) you have got to watch it.

I can't think of anything else to be honest

Captcha: Paper. Not sure what this has to do with anything Captcha.

Not a chick flick, but somewhat female-centric and a film I think everyone should see regardless is Persepolis. It's an animated autobiographical account of a woman's exile from and return to Iran in the midst of it's Islamic Revolution; a funny, heartwarming, enlightening and thoroughly depressing all at once tale about identity, integrity, family, religion, oppression, political unrest and self-discovery. Also, I'm totally usually not 'that guy' but I definitely recommend watching the subbed version. ;)

On the other thread , no where was it written that there are no girls allowed.... It was a thread for recommendations for movies generally men like.....

Moving on ,

Gone with the wind , My neighbor totoro and Casablanca are some of my favorites and I recommend every one to watch these , male or female .

And other which i absolutely hate and consider as nothing but piles of shit but still are perfect for this thread are -

Titanic - The movie is a pile of shit but still loved by most females

Twilight - Typing the name made me puke on my keyboard ! Its all sticky now !

Notebook - Haven't seen it but watching the cinema sins of it made me feel that it was the right choice .

Tangled - Slow paced , boring , predictable plot...

I hate each one of these....

Zombies, you say?

Braindead, the sweetest and funniest romantic comedy of them all! Can't remember if there are any explosions in it, but why no explosions anyway? Stupid rule.

Easy A. Probably pushing it outside the PG comfort zone, but still... fun romantic comedy with some pretty smart message about expectations and dealing with gossips and its consequences.

Aw man, a lot of Bollywood is underappreciated. Those are great movies. I'd also suggest, as a Bollywood film in the same vein, "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge". Maybe a little older and cheesier than the two you recommended, but still very good.

Magic Mike...

On a more "serious" note, there's Bridesmaids, The Heat, Black Swan, and Love Actually...

Other than that, there's The Decent... and any adaptation of a Jane Austin book, but maybe I'm a bit bias on that choice in particular... <color=white>Also, I want to say 50 Shades of Grey, but I haven't seen the movie yet...
