Hello escapist, Pegghead here.

As I'm sure all you boys and girls are aware, the night of spooktacular costumes and Frightfully cheap candy we know as Halloween is almost upon us, so I come to you with need for advice. Having rounded up a few mates and actually gained the will to organise something, when Halloween comes, we're going to be having a fest of film if you may, specifically ones fit for Halloween and so I want your say. It can be anything you think would make a good night in, from blood-riddled undead mayhem, to psychotic killers out to ruin the vacations of college students. Oh and if you suggest ANY of the Halloween movies, I will break you.

The Descent is one of the only movies that can scare me, so I'd go with that.

Also try a few foreign ones like [REC] or 'Ils'.

I find that the classics such as Scream or Friday the 13th tend to be massively overrated.

In the camp for blood riddled Zombie mayhey, i whole heartedly recommend Dead Snow.

If you're OK with subtitles, i don't think it comes dubbed. But to be honest with you, it's probably my second favourite Zombie film of all time, Shaun of the Dead being numero uno.

If you have not seen it, i was also recommend Dog Soldiers. It's not especially scary, but it's a cracking Werewolf story.
Hmmm, is Dead Snow the one about the Nazi Zombies? :/

Also, I'd recommend Zombieland, because Halloween doesn't mean you have to be shit scared in your room about being knife raped by some sociopath.

You're absolutely right, I was looking more for, y'know, fun horror movies that don't take themselves too seriously.

I saw a movie called P2 a little while ago that I thought was really good. It scared me anyways.

Also, Funny Games still stands as one of my favorite horror movies of all time.

I watch Young Frankenstein with friends every year for Halloween. It's not a Halloween movie per se, but it's a great movie nonetheless.

While not specifically 'scary' both Alien and Aliens might fit in with the Halloween time.

Definitely The Nightmare Before Christmas, as I consider it the best Halloween and Christmas movie of all time.

No sir. That movie is just plain horrifying in a bad way. Not in a fun scare way, but in a mindfuck-week-of-nightmares way. But hey, if you like that...

[REC] is probably one of my favorite, if not, my absolute favorite horror movie.

Its one of the only movies where I was literally screaming in and was really terrified for the people in it.

That and Ju-on. Its the origional Japanese version of the Grudge. Much scarier than the American version.

Drag Me to Hell
I've seen this and it intrigued me, just because it was a Sam Raimi.

Does it follow, what i hope, to be an Evil Dead kind of style. I mean, looking at the trailer, it certainly seems to, and that would be utterly fantastical.
Well...sort of. It is quite campy, and the 'gross-out' style humor has always been done well, but I feel having a budget might have been a curse for Mr. Raimi. If you recall the scene with the eyeball in Evil Dead 2 (you know the one eye mean), there is a scene similar in Drag Me to Hell, made a bit lame by the CGI. However, it is by all means a good film, with several legitimately scary scenes as well as subtle music ques. Go in expecting a high budget Evil Dead, and you may or may not be disappointed.
