Norwegian Ninja
The film presents real-life espionage-convicted Arne Treholt as the leader of a ninja group saving Norway during the Cold War.
Oh yeah

Danish cinema seem to be doing fairly well on export markets in spite of how small the country and language is, but in the totality of things it's probably still obscure and insignificant. The works of Lars von Trieris probably what's been spread the most, though I for one never cared much for them.

Never did see a Finnish movie.

Oh look, an English version.
I couldn't find an English version of this song, but it's just to great to ignore.
It's a Danish children/young adults' film famed for it's abundance of violence and profanities. And sexual references. And suicide scene.
Nothing like brutal comedy with pretensions to social commentary. It's pretty much a Scandinavian specialty. That movie is highly amusing.

Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are just a couple of the brilliant British movies to be released.
Agreed, Hot Fuzz was bloody epic. As for the rest of British cinema, its all so dark and depressing and I know thats what were famous for but sometimes its just an excuse to play any mundane crap and say "well its real life fuunah"... life CAN be fun, like Hot Fuzz, lets have more dark humour and less dark bordom.

I'm American, so I don't have that problem
This made me laugh.

For the consideration of the escapists my favourite English films (well between that and the first seven that sprung to mind):

Get Carter (Hodges: 1971)
Abigails Party (Leigh: 1977)
Brighton Rock (Boulting: 1947)
Dead Mans Shoes (Meadows: 2004)
The Long Good Friday (Mackenzie: 1980)
The Belles of Saint Trinians (Launder: 1954)
The Knowledge (Brooks: 1979)

I have the secret in your eyes on my computer, but i haven't seen it yet, herad great things about it though, also, isn't nine queens kind of graphic?

i'm from brasil, "ola vizinhos", and if i had to tell you two movies that are must see brasilian films, with amazing acting, action scene and social drama, i wouln't wait a secondo longer then the blink of an ey to recommend you "Tropa de Elite" (Elite Squad) both 1 and 2, the second one did the unthinkable, it mobilized brasilian society, it broke records that standed for years and it was the only movie i've paid in a long time to watch at the cinema more then 3 times, (you would know how big of a deal this is if you knew how much it costs for us).

just an amazing movie, people cried, aplauded and left diferent people then they were when they came in

(sorry for my broken english)

Germany
we have a couple. most of them are set in the magical time between 1933 and 1945 wen everyone was the good guys but(and Japan and Italy and Hungary and Austria and well you get the picture)
to name one : The downfall(also has on of scenes most cannibalized on youtube)
oh and we have Metropolis
And "M" another Fritz Lang classic. And the little known 'Love is Colder Than Death'. It makes me wish I was German/could speak German just so I could watch it without subs. Good call on Metropolis one of the three greatest Sci-Fi movies of all time in my opinion. I am lookign forward to seeing the new extended/fuller version.

Well, I'm from England so... I don't know, really. I like mostly all English films, but they appeal English people in culture more than anything. I doubt Americans would really enjoy a lot of our stuff.

I'm from the U.S, not hard to find good movies from my country.
Well, it's not difficult to find good ones from the US using the intarwebs, but there's probably more bad American films than good ones out there. Still, I would say the best films do come from America so if you have to sift though a little crap to find some gems, I suppose it isn't all that bad.

As an American who has nothing against other countries, and is a bit embarrassed about a good chunk of Americas foreign policy, it's easy to feel like people have nothing good to say about America unless they're jingoistic Americans. So this question makes me feel much better. Ive loved a bunch of Foreign films. The ones I see mentioned which I recognize are all pretty wonderful. But asking that question to an American just sounds silly, because even though yes, there's a bunch of crap, America also has countless amazing and innovative pieces of Cinema. I'm not even sure where to begin. Casablanca?
