Hi... I'm going to university in North Vancouver BC in September.

But I can't get a place to live in there.

If anyone has any leads on housing or some tips I haven't yet thought of, it would be greatly appreciated! I want to get a place by August 16th so I can move there early and maybe set up some work before my term begins.

I don't expect much from this thread but thanks in advance to all of you who try.

Check Kijiji.com for room rentals if you can, but it might be a bit late for September. Try looking though house rentals and apartment rentals, too, if you can afford a place yourself and hopefully rent some space out as well.

I have used Kijiji a lot for Manitoba and Alberta, and my parents are using it to look for a place on Vancouver Island.

Well little Red is finally moving out.

As previously mentioned, check kijiji.com. I'd pick more a room in a house since you're probably going to pay less. However, the things about houses is the cost varies depending on how many roommates that you have. (More on that later) .

As for apartments, don't sign with any "apartment companies". they tend to stick you with tricky leases and hard to get out contracts. If you are stuck with one, remember to check the FINE PRINT and always keep a copy of your contract.

As for moving out with a random roommate...It's big giant gamble that can turn very ugly or really good. My 2nd roommates was an awesome guy which I should've treated better. My 3rd roommate was a complete disaster. She wasn't from Canada and kept telling me that she had very different customs. Problem was that she was an awful human being that made you crazy. So remember, if you're checking an apartment with someone looking for a roommate, it's always good to know them before you decide to sign. Set your boundaries.

As for moving to school, I'd pick a place which isn't far from University and isn't far from where you can buy food. If it's groceries, it's perfect. (Convenience stores are no-no unless you want a round of "freshman 15") If you can't get a place between those two, get a place near an easy access to transportation. It's good to establish yourself a way that's familiar therefore you don't feel lost in a moment of panic and you can also get somewhere quickly.

And for the love of Jennifer Lawrence, get some friends while you're there! (Not saying that you don't have friends, just saying that it's good to establish friendship if you need to get out of the apartment).
