Although there was one topic similar, the situations are different.

'kay, so here's the lowdown. I turn 19 in a fortnight or so, Im living with my parents still and sister. I haven't got any income because im not close enough to the city to find affordable work. My sister steals ANYTHING of mine that isn't nailed down ($120 This year so far) and It's hard when your close to broke. I haven't got my own computer or lock on the door so I can't keep an eye on my room 24/7. They don't give me any freedom despite being a legal and mature Adult. They INSIST on sending me into the RAAF (Royal Aust' Air Force) which I dont want to join. I just feel like they want someone to always watch over me and its extremely suffocating on my freedom. I can move out with a friend but Im mostly looking for advice on where, what to do/take etc and if I should go on a government scheme (aka the dull) while I look for work as they pay most of my rent etc.

Well, if you're in brisbane, give me a bell.

I'm looking for some people to get a share-house with. But that's beside the point.

If you do look to get on the Dole, try to find a house or apartment before you do, or at least wait a few weeks. Don't be picky when it comes to apartments, because the cheaper the better until you get a decent job.

GTFO of there while you can! The longer you spend tied down in your current home the longer the
freedom you've dreamnt of as kid eludes you!
Get with a few friends/"mates" (hehe) and go live your life, dont let slight poverty and over bearing parents drag you down!

.........atleast thats what Im gonna do when I turn 18...

Either way good luck!

Don't be picky about what you get is the best advice, a house shares probably best :)I don't know about australias benefit system, i assume its similar to ours as the two countries are pratically the same but Australia has nicer weather than the UK :p, so going by our system the dole and housing benefits should help you out :)
