Hey guys,
I'm moving to Chicago for the summer from the UK/Ireland, and as a PC gamer I was wondering if there's going to be any incompatibilities, other than power-socket. I'm worried about games and mostly the internet, I've heard you have a different kind of internet in America than here, something about static IPs and Dynamic IPs... Im not sure.

What are my options for the internet while Im over there? Can I get mobile broadband, or can I get a monthly internet contract (Im only in the US for 3 months)

Are there many gaming cafes in Chicago|? Anyone?

Im just slightly annoyed because my internet here at university is rubbish, and I look forward to real gaming internet during the summer.

Just looking for some advice.

Pretty much expect,
1) No used market
2) Every last person you meet to at some point bring up blagovitch
As far as internet goes it's mostly "Comcast"

Have you talked to your roomates yet? With any luck your dorm or apartment should already have high speed internet. If not you can go to an internet cafe. I doubt compatability will be a problem

1-Welcome to Chicago! I also live there.
2-Gaming cafes, not that I know of.
3-There is either Dish, AT&T, or Comcast internet. The internet here is rather fast, especially in the downtown areas. They have cafes that have free internet access.
4-Hope you like Chicago. In the summer we have varying degrees of weather. It can be anywhere from 60 degrees all the way to 110 degrees :)

I figure you'll have a GREAT time gaming online, Chicago is one of the world's biggest internet hubs so many gaming servers are hosted there. I used to play Chicago server's from my BGSU dorm room (in Ohio) and could find many servers with pings 30 and below (sometimes bottoming out at 5 on TF2!)

Yea and all that business with static and dynamic IPs, don't worry. Dynamic IPs just means that the ISP can change your numeric address when they need to, or you can pay extra for a static address if you want to host a public access server from your residence. It won't ever change mid game.

Thanks for the great advice guys, you've pretty much settled my qualms, but one last thing I forgot to ask -

Are there any big LAN parties or Gaming events happening around Chicago this summer>?
Or where would I find out about stuff like that?
