Walkmans are good, they recently brought out a MP3 which comes with bluetooth earphones. Also, they have very good sound quality and have excellent battery life as well.

If you want an mp3 player, go for something simple and basic. Players like the zen stone have about 4gb memory, a small oled screan to display the song, and a decent battery life. Avoid small players with tiny color screens that can play videos, the quality wont be good, and they usually ruin the battery life. Also avoid ipods, they're to expensive compared to other mp3 players with the same functions.

Zunes are pretty good. They are designed to be better than iPods. I know the creative line has its strengths though. I haven't done my homework on them at all, but they have piqued my interest. My next MP3 player will be either one of those or a Zune.

I just read Zune works with Xbox. Anyone done stuff with that?

Yeah. If you plug in your ipod the xbox can play MP3 and non-DRM AAC files off it (basically any music which hasnt been bought off itunes!)

depending on how much music you carry with you an iTouch would be nice... plus you get the added bonus of web browsing if you have a wireless network, and not to mention all the apps...

I like my iPod Nano, but I did have a Meizu MiniPlayer before. The Meizu was pretty good, despite its faults. I still enjoy my iPod a lot more though.

everything else does the same and better apart from some tacky 'apps' and costs a lot less

looking for a good one with a reasonable price tag? Creative x-fi or a zune

looking to spend a bit more but actualy SEE the difference? go for a PMP
Archos Gen 5 and 7 are great for watching HD movies on, if your willing to pay a little more

I hate the ipod even though I own one. (mine fell of a truck *hint hint*) the ipod itself works fine and all but what I hate about them is the fact your reliant on Itunes to update your music. I fucking hate that program.

I just got a Zune, and the 3 strikes I have against it so far are the lack of equalizer, superfluous software UI, and crappy touchpad. Otherwise, it's pretty decent but I wouldn't recommend it if you're used to a basic, easy drag & drop interface, ala Zen.

Depends on how much music you listen too. My Shuffle works fine for me because I never hold more then 80 songs at a time with room too spare. If you need more space, get one with a screen. Memory and having a screen or now should be your only concerns. Don't worry about fancy apps and such. They have phones for those.

Thank you friend, for you have literally just proved the point that I am going to argue.

From a lot of experience with music players I can safely say Apple has got it right and has been getting it right for eight bloody years now.

First off, iTunes is a good (if not great) piece of software. I'm only saying this because it is usually the no-good-cop-out excuse for these bastards to use (y'know, the ones who don't buy iPods only because everyone else has one). If one of these Apple haters can point out any major flaw in iTunes then please do so because I think I'm missing something here! Even if all you want to do is literally get your MP3 files onto your iPod all you have to do is drag and drop them into the iTunes window, plug in your iPod and sync it up.

Secondly, iPods are just a pleasure to use. I won't get into everything that makes iPods great because its probably been stated already.

Now (and here's the important bit) I'm not trying to sell iPods and I'm also not a fan of them because of their popularity. Its just that typically anti-social people who like to be unique right down to their choice of MP3 player (petty I know) are really not doing themselves any favours because what they end up with is a clunky generic MP3 player for around the same price, the only real reason for the purchase being they didnt want to go with the crowd. I understand this but for once in the whole of humanity, the crowd are right this time.
