So I just recieved a 'chain e-mail' for lack of a better term. The general jist of the e-mail was that msn was no longer going to be free in 20 something days and if you dont forward this e-mail your account will be deleted because there are too many hotmail accounts.

Hi this is tara and john, the directors of msn.Sorry for the interruption but MSN is closing down. This is because too many inconsiderate people are taking up all the name (e.g. Making up lots of different accounts for just one person, etc.), we only have 578 names left. If you would like to close your account, DO NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE ON. If you would like to keep your Account, then SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST. This is no joke, we will be shutting down the servers.
Send it on, thanks.

P.S.
WHO EVER DOES NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE, YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE CLOSED AND IT WILL COST YOU 10.00 A MONTH TO USE. SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST. NOW YOU
KNOW WHAT TO DO. PLEASE DO NOT FORWARD THIS or REPLAY. COPY THE WHOLE EMAIL.
GO BACK TO YOUR INBOX AND CLICK ON NEW. AND PASTE THANK YOU FOR YOUR
ATTENTION.

This is no joke if you don't believe us then go to this site:
http://news.BBC.co.UK/1/hi/business/1189119.stm
and see for yourself. Anyways once you've sent this message to at least 18 contacts, your MSN icon will become blue. Please copy and paste don't forward because people wont read them

All in all, it was rather convicing. Until I read the news article it linked to, I was slightly convinced. After I read the news article it became apparent that it was a load of crap. The only similar detail was the £10.00 charge, but was for different reasons. The e-mail said it would cost £10.00 a month to use your account if you dont forward this message and the news article said it will cost £10.00 to use some extra features they will be incorporating.

Here's the news article, incase you didnt read the spoilered email. [http://news.BBC.co.UK/1/hi/business/1189119.stm]

So have you recieved this e-mail? Did you believe it, or call bullshit right away? Do you think msn will ever be charged for?

I have been sent something like this on msn for about 3 years now.

I believe in it as little now as I did when I first saw it.

Bad grammar, lack of capitalisation on names, supposedly from two different people, unnecessary chain lettering...Somebody open the window, because this smells of Bullshit.

I have received many similar e-mails in the past. They are all bullshit, and none of them have convinced me. The entire premise of the e-mail doesn't make sense, and I hate when people actually forward them.

Yeah, I've received similar e-mails. Right in the trash can with those.

Never believed them either.

Any email that says that something bad will happen if I don't forward it I know is a load of crap instantly.

If something like this was really going to happen to MSN it would be plastered all over the news first.

I thought you were insulting my grammar then.

Anyway, Im rather ashamed that I didnt notice bullshit straight away. Another that springs to mind is that wouldnt a mass message have been sent from the Hotmail team as per usual?

I would've instantly deleted it, had they not cited a news article. They atleast get some credit for that, as idiots wouldn't have opened the article, but assumed it was relevant.

Its just a chain mail. If MSN wanted to get hold of you they would send you an email themselves letting you know and not via chain mail.

Idiots believe this.

I wouldn't say idiots per se(even though I just did a few posts up), but more of a lack of common sense? I recieved this from a reasonably intelligent friend of mine, who presumably believed it. Hell, the only reason I was slighty convinced was to my crappy common sense. Luckily, I read the article, which proved the entire things wrong. I hate chain e-mails.

Don't believe a word of it. Why would these guys who made it send this mail to an elite few to spread it round the world? They could probably send it to everyone en mass if it were true.

I called bs instantly. MSN is and will alsways be free, and besides if they switched their buisness model most people would go to another free email to avoid paying.
