Yesterday I spent my first new years with friends rather than with folks (odd for me but something new)

Anyway I got to talking with my friends during my browsing of the Steam sales and asked them of their suggestions for a military FPOS, be it WWII or modern day and I was met with thse suggestions:

COD: WaW (a favourite I loved back in 2008 on my Xbox 360)
Rising Storm
Red orchestra 1+2

I then decided to buy COD WaW since it was on sale and imagined the multiplayer would still be alive or at least integrated on Steam via public or private servers, oh how wrong I was when I wasn't able to find a single soul playing online and was left with just the campaign and the ability to not connect to "the online service" even though I could somehow.

Then I took a look at Rising Storm and found it was a 2013 game but looked a lot similar to Red Orchestra (made by the same company who knew) and it wasn't exactly 2013 looking material and apparently the multiplayer was dwindling already so I've given both those a pass.

Now I've already played games like Battlefield 3 and bad company 2 (can't seem to find anyone around on BC2 atm) but I'm not willing to buy BF3 for PC seeing as how it's on origin (plus price+DLC) and I don't want to have to jump to origin when I'm already on Steam and had 3 of my games recently tied down to Uplay.

I ask of you what other multiplayer FPS's are out there that are still alive and not heavy in cost but are still thriving and fun.

Counterstrike: Global Offensive..... counterstrike is the best fps and there is no map in gaming history better than Dust II. Counterstrike is one of those games that just won't ever die.

Well if you enjoy the CoD unlocking nonsense then I suggest Blacklight Retribution, plays exactly as CoD with a sci-fi theme and it's free to play so you can jump in and out at any time without the $120 tax.
