Hi there Escapist!

I recently bought a laptop for work. Spec:

Intel i7-2670 cup @ 2.20GHz, 4 cores, 8 logical processors
6gb ram
Geforce GT635m 2gb graphics card (and the onboard intel 4000 obviously)
Windows 7

Now I haven't really been into PC gaming at all, my housemate has an Xbox and I enjoy that but I thought back to when I was much younger, and really enjoyed playing Diablo online. I had a decent character, was part of a small clan, it was good. I also used to play a browser game called Triple Triad Advance, it was basically an expanded, PVP version of the card game from Final Fantasy 8, sadly the community seems to have died down a lot.

So I asked a friend "What's good to play online?" now, and he pointed me to this game called League of Legends. I didn't mind the gameplay, but the people on there really annoyed me - in all of the 8 or so games I played, everyone involved spent most of their time abusing everyone else - team mates and other players. And not reasonable arguments either - most of it could be summarised with "OMG N00bS ERYWHERE LOL U ALL SUCK".

1. Is this just what online gaming is these days? Constant squabbling?
2. What are some games that you guys play with fun gameplay and good communities? I mostly play RPGs, a little RTS, and quirky puzzle/tactics games like Triple Triad that I mentioned.
3. Keep in mind my laptop specs when making game suggestions please!

Pretty well all MOBA's like League of legends are cesspits so stay away form them if you don't like whining, as for games Path of exile is free it's like Diablo, and I heard it's pretty good can't speak for the community though

Ya MOBA games are just built up for hate, everyone needs a very specific role and if they don't keep it then the whole team suffers for the next hour, and just to make it more fun if you leave the match you can get banned for it...

But anyway World of Tanks right now I find has the best community, it's a tactical team tank combat game where your team mates are only beneficial never detrimental, and when I say tactical I mean you need to figure out where to be and who to engage long before tanks are in your view because they will rip you a new one before you get the chance to reposition.

You could also try the numerous MMORPGs out there, people are usually very friendly because everything besides chatting is boring as balls.

I'd second TL2 and PoE - both are very good games, excellent if you're after something Diablo-like. Do give them a shot - PoE is free, as has been said, while TL2 has a demo you can try. Community-wise, TL2 is good, I don't really know about PoE - I've only played it either solo or with a friend who was right next to me.

No-one's pointed it out so... TF2? It can even run on my computer which can barely handle minecraft (freezes and lags commonly) so a laptop could easily handle it. I didn't read the whole paragraph, so if there was a section that said 'I hate FPSes!' then I apologise.

Dark souls has a good community, who will invade and destroy you (Myself included)

However there are the Sunbros to aid you in your time of need, whether it be fighting bosses, mobs or just the regular old Dickwraith (Me)

I strongly recommend you grab Dark souls, even if the port is pretty bad. I'd bet other users would back me up on this as well. It's a REALLY fucking good game :3

Faith in the internet: Slightly restored! Thanks guys, I'm currently downloading Path of Exile (seems the most similar to Diablo, and free - hurrah) and if that fails to entertain I'll try out one of the others.

I'll also get TF2 - I don't hate shooters (I'm decent at them on Xbox) but I'm just terrible at them when confronted with a mouse and keyboard. But I'll give it a go!

Thanks to all who suggested Path of Exile - I'm now lvl 34 and loving it!

Just replying in case anyone was wondering about an awesome free game... POE is like a more advanced Diablo 2. Good community too.

Not all MOBA's are total cesspits. Smite isn't for one. Sure the community could be better, but the same can be said about any online game. Roles aren't as important in smite either in the 'casual' games section. Generally everyone just picks what they like to play, and one tank is preferred but not utterly needed. As long as you stay in your lane and don't die constantly in the beginning it's fine.
