So when it comes to games in general do you prefer going it alone or online multiplayer, or mabye with a freind (in the same room) or both

Dose multiplayer affect weather or not youre interested in a game? how do you feel about it in general

For me I've never really played multiplayer on anything mainly due to technicl reasons, living in the middle of nowhere in a far away land (Australia) the internet has always been less than perfect,I have good internet now but its got limits.

Anyway while Online could be really fun I really like storys in games so I prefer the solo experience (less abuse as well) If a game is advertised as online being a big feature I probably wont get it because single player might have had less focus

This is the reason I was dissapointed in Borderlands, mabye great fun with others but on its own kinda bland, It could have been awsome had it been better made for single player (just my opionion)

So anyway what do you think? do you think the future of gaming is learning more towards multiplayer or not?

oh and not many of my freinds are gamers so I had to go solo for Smash bro's brawl :(

I prefer single-player, because I'm less likely to get harassed. And yeah, like you, OP, my internet is very Australian and therefore it sucks. I don't mind playing with others, as long as they're in the room with me, but I prefer to do most of my gaming on my own if I can. Multiplayer capabilities in a game don't matter very much to me, since there are only a few games (coincidentally all by Valve) which I play with others.

I'm in the middle. I love a good story, but at the same time playing games alone feels kinda pointless. But, since my LIVE expired, I've been appreciating single-player gaming a fair bit more - like BioShock instead of Halo: Reach.

Multiplayer does affect my interest in what I'll buy the game for. If it's multi-platform and has MP that I'm interested in, I'll get it on 360, due to the Xbox Live party ystem.

If it's single player, I'm going to get it on PS3 from now on, because no one of PS3 has a fucking headset. And there is no party system.

Also, I love Borderlands more solo than online. No one to share the loot with...Sure, it's lower quality loot, but...no one to share it with!

That said, overall, I prefer a solo game. Because it's not community reliant, meaning that the game will never die down to a mere handful of players. I'd get bored playing with the same people over and over.

well, I like both, for example, Half Life, I loved playing the story mode (as never ending and boring it got sometimes), but when I finished it, the still incredible multiplayer kept me coming back all the time

I love campaign and online cooperative, but multiplayer grants a satisfaction that neither can provide in the same way.

I play SP with everything - I can do it at my pace, Im not outclassed, no abuse ...

Actually, why IS online gaming so abusive? As a past-time does all that adrenaline cause some sort of Tech-Roid-Rage? Or is it just that as a species we have become just a little too competitive?

I would say the future is both though - certain games will always be better MP (eg Battlefield) and others are just meant to be SP (Half life). You cant really get a story with MP - even in co-op, its not like in a cinema when you sit down with your mates for 2 hours. Games clocking in at 10 hours plus mean that if you want to experience the story, its better done when you can do it alone. Otherwise you're looking at serious diary organisation.

in between, I sometimes am in the mood for multi, sometimes in the mood for single-player.

Depends on the game and genre really. I play some Dawn of War online with my brother, but neither of us are really that great at RTS, so I wouldn't go play against a random person, as I'd get destroyed.

Shooters I enjoy BFBC2 online because I can be a medic or something and still get high up on the score board even though I may not have the best aim.

RPGs are almost always singleplayer anyway.

Racing games often have too many demolition drivers and not enough racers, so online is rare for me.

Congrats!

OT: I prefer singleplayer - I always have done. I've played less than 5 games online for a long stretch of time in my gaming career.

Stories, good characters and great gameplay is prefered to the possible bullshit that goes on online. I'm not talking about people who use the gameplay mechanics of the game to give them advantage but rather people who will alter the game or use 3rd party add on's to gain unfair advantage on normal players.

I agree, In regard to Borderlands it was just the little things that annoyed me, like actually having conversations with the charachters instead of just an interface and mabye a "phrase", and having the bosses reaspawn and all that...I mean it had potential

Definitely prefer single-player. I've tried to get into multi-player, but the problem is that I'm just not competitive, and I'm not that great at most games.

Completely off-topic!

I remember your avatar. He was the shop keeper in Xenon 2 - and your nick is a reference to the 'Super nashwan power' you could get at something like the first 10 seconds of the next level.

Damn my parents played the hell out of that game on the Amiga. Fun times. :D

Lol for a moment there I felt cool, then realised basically I am old. At 32 years of age now, I was playing that game when I was about 10 :( And I had an awesome joystick with the best auto-fire in the business. My god that is so 80's....

I prefer single player because thats where the story and characters are at and not where little kids are.

If a game has no single player I don't buy it because it guarantees it won't be fun.

Wheres the fun in spawning and getting instagibbed by some guy with a super gaming mouse/keyboard, a 'noclip cheat and a shoot through walls' hack?

The ONLY games where I could play multiplayer and honestly say I enjoyed it are Global Agenda,Killing Floor,Iron Grip Warlords and Alien Swarm (funny how 75% of them are co-op eh?)

Since most other people tend to be dickheads esp online, I hate multiplayer. I would much prefer Single Player.
