I'd be really into this if it didn't require me spending around 300$ for a Vita. Ugh, every time I see the price of their memory cards, I cringe. What? Were the memory cards forged in a dying star alongside Mjolnir? Every time I think about getting a Vita, the price of it, the cards and then adding in the price of the games I want, just makes me turn my back and buy 3DS/DS/PS3 games, with some movies and crap.

PS3?
Sure.

PSV?
No!

I never got to play this (even though I actually bought a copy).

I would LOVE to play this on the Vita. Best console for it. 2D games like Rayman Origins look GORGEOUS on the Vita.

Yeah, the system is definitely expensive over all. I think the majority of us who bought the PS Vita already got it while it was on sale or at a rather steep discount (some stores back May 2012 were selling the thing for $190 USD with the 16gb memory card going for $35.) Unfortunately the only games I own for it officially are Gravity Rush and Persona 3 Portable.

I've been interested in the Vita for games such as Gravity Rush and Dokuro, as well as ports such as PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Dead or Alive 5 Plus but this... this has turned the Vita into a must buy.

I loved Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Not only is it one of my favourite Wii games, my third favourite in fact, but it's one of my top ten favourite games of all time. It had been a long time since a game which didn't have 'Super Smash Bros' in the title had me up all night playing, but with Muramasa it was worth it.

Still, I'm cautious about this, it's only said it has a release for USA and they could do the extremely sinister and cruel decision to not release it in the UK and Europe. An English version gives me plenty of hope though. Now I just hope they release the Sapphire Blue Vita soon, if I get a Vita, that's the version I want to obtain.

if you take out the "gimicks" the vita would sell even worse.

most times its that "extra crap" that lets people favoritise something over another thing.

just look at smartphones and their "extra crap"

plus you have a handheld with almost the power of a console in the palm of your hands. even if you would take out the "extra crap".

so 250$ is a steep but fair price.
Here's the thing, the extra stuff on the smartphones is their selling point.

The selling point of the PSVita is a powerful handheld gaming device.

Why bother making a handheld that is packed with pretty much the exact same apps as any given phone that the vast majority of people have? Why have the same features as an iPhone, Samsung, Blackberry, or Android phone when in all reality people will use phone apps on their phone, and not their gaming handheld? It makes little sense from a practical standpoint because no one needs to go on Facebook on their PSVita when their phone app can do it faster/better. Its also a bad decision business-wise because they're competing with the phone market. Everyone one and their grandparents has a phone that has all of these apps. Why try to take away from a market with such a massive install base.(Also why have a touchscreen at all when no games use it?)

And I still find that $250 is way too much for a handheld to cost. There's a reason the PSVita is selling like crap. It has the games to warrant being called a great handheld, but the price is just too steep. May as well save up another $50 and get a PS3 bundle with 2-3 games. The 3DS is $100 less and is beating the piss out of ther Vita in sales. There's just too much non gaming feature on the Vita that drive its price up. The PSVita's price would be fine if the 3DS was still just as expensive.

Oh glob darn it, I'm gonna be broke through the year. Part of me is hoping for a limited edition with art book and soundtrack however. Considering the publisher, i can get my hopes up if i look at some of their past limited editions was an indicator. it'll be nice to use my vita for more then psp RPGs and persona 4 golden, and dragon's crown whenever that'll come out.

no. the "power" of the vita is not the only selling point.

by your logic you could say that you dont need all that useless crap like facebook connection, the option to access the internet, the option to check e mails, a video camera and a youtube app on your smartphone because you already have that with a decent pc/laptop.
Unequal comparison. The access to those apps is what makes a "smartphone" by definition a smartphone. The ability to run to check e-mails, the camera that can auto upload to Facebook or Youtube, the portable YouTube access that doesn't suck, the internet access and interface of, that's what makes a smartphone what it is rather than just a cellphone. And the major selling point of the smartphone is to always be connected to the web without needing to sit at a desktop, or pull out a laptop. The smartphone is in your pocket at all times. That's how those are marketed.

The PSVita is a handheld gaming device. It doesn't need all of that. It doesn't do it as well. And to be frank has a significantly shorter battery life than most smartphones.(5 hours) But the features that sell smartphones are what is being marketed for the PSVita more than the gaming aspect. Their target market is gamers and they're trying to sell a gaming device on the fact that it can do all of the things, worse, than whatever phone they have in their pocket courtesy of living in the year 2013.

Not only that but the PSVita's cost is inflated by those features, when in truth those features are much worse than the cheapest of their smartphone counterparts, and the cheapest smartphones are much cheaper than $250.
and you could say the same thith the DS or 3DS:
why bother having apps that makes you connect to friends and access an online store when you could do that with a laptop or a mail-order service?
Again, apples to oranges argument. Coupled with the fact that the 3DS' online store isn't accessible by a means of any device but the 3DS, so this point is moot.

and that is not "taking away the market".
sony isnt going to lure you into a trap and then destroy your smartphone.
sony also sells smartphones (sony erricson), that would be like shooting themselves in the foot.[/quote]

Let me flip the script here. First off, yes, Sony is trying to use their gaming device to, in a way, compete with the smartphone market. Sony sure as shit isn't trying to compete with the 3DS. Hell, remember the PSP's marketing? It was made to say that the PSP was better than playing games on cellphones/smartphones. Sony acts so much like the phone game market is the main competitor to the PSP brand, not the DS brand, and that's why their's Facebook access built in to their gaming device and not the 3DS. Sony thinks the gamers want apps on their handheld, while Nintendo for the most part is still selling games with the 3DS.

they do it to be more competetive with other gaming devices.
There's only one other handheld gaming device on the market than is even considered a competitor, the DS brand, and they've been mopping the floor with Sony's PSP for the last 8 years without needing to so much as blink. If Sony's doing this to compete with a gamer's market, they clearly lost.

if you would have 2 handhelds that are excatly the same and you would take one of them and put in a gimmick, people would go for the one with the gimmick(DS and 3DS as example) since they would be having a more satisfied feeling of having brought the best and most of a deal.
Straw man argument. There's a $90 dollar difference in the price of a PSVita vs. a 3DS. It's defiantly not the gimmick that's selling the 3DS. It's the fact that the PSVita costs the same as the PS3 and the newly released Wii U. More to your point about selling 2 handhelds that are, as you say, "exactly the same." They're not exactly the same. BS features aside, the PSVita is the more powerful of the two handhelds in terms of gaming. When the 3DS uses its 3D touchscreen to sell, Sony shouldn't respond with, "but ours can do what your phone does".

and if you were to assemble a decent pc, you would have to invest at least 200$ in it. thats the price and its pretty cheap.
How much straw-man are you going to throw at me before we start affecting global warming here? Stop trying to bring how PCs and Laptops are priced into the equation. Its a different market. Besides you can put as much or as little as you want into a PC realistically.
you should not be upset because some random dude in china that is working under horrific conditions 24/7, wants to have money to be able to eat something
and therefore making your console more "expensive".
Red Herring. There's so many factors in tht point that detract from what we're talking about here. Coupled with the fact that the same "random dude in china" that makes the PSVita, makes the 3DS, the iPhone, and many others smartphones, tablets, and gaming consoles in the same "random factory" in China known as Foxconn. It's all the same material. Its Sony that decided that the PSVita was worth about the same as a PS3. It's Sony that decided to keep selling the PSVita at $250 after seeing Nintendo slash the 3DS' massively inflated $250 to $180, and then again to $150 when the 3DS wasn't selling. Don't try to hand me the factory worker angle on this. It all comes from the same factory these days.
the only thing that is trully haltering the PS Vita is that they currently dont have as much titles in their game pool as other handheld consoles. nothing else.
Wrong again Bob. There are enough reputable games on the PSVita considering that the main difference between these handhelds and the console market. This is a glaring difference. The consoles share a lot more reputable multiform titles on the 3rd Party level than the handhelds. With the PSVita vs the 3DS, the multiplatform games are, for the most part, handheld cash ins. Third party exclusives are the majority of each handhelds library. Why? Because what company in their right mind would want to make the same game for a handheld with 2 screens and them make the same game for a handheld with 1 screen? Couple that with the fact that the handheld with one screen is usually the more powerful handheld, but the one with 2 screen sells millions more.

So what I'm saying is the PSVita has a big enough game pool considering it doesn't have to share it with the competition most of the time. Exclusives may not sell consoles anymore but they do play a major factor in which handheld is bought.]

And you're here trying to tell me that the price difference of $100, the price difference of almost half the price from one handheld to the other, has no bearing on why the PSVita is failing to sell?

You're smarter than that, come on.
