I've noticed that certain music and certain games can enhance the experience, especially with any fast paced games. What are everyone else's favourite tunes to play to?

FPS: Disturbed, other similar sounds
RPG: iPod set to shuffle, I usually skip metal type songs

As you said, any fast paced music goes great with fast paced action. Ever since I drove around the city in Saints Row 2 to Jet's 'Put your money where your mouth is', I've been listening to them for any action game. I'm not even a big fan of Jet.

Sometimes what I do is get the soundtrack to a movie that has a similar theme to the game I'm playing. Back when I first played Oblivion, I did it to the Lord of the Rings soundtrack.

Oh, and the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack. I could listen to that anytime.

In FPS's I'd have to go in for Disturbed or Rob Zombie.
In RPG's I prefer Led Zeppelin or Iron Maiden.

i find drum n bass suits most games, nothing quite like tearing around a track/gunning down a room of baddies to the sounds of chase and status, sub focus or tech itch.

suppose you've got to be into it really though.

The different genres of Techno to everything. But I do find Classical music pleasing when I play FPS.

Playing Drowning Pool's "Let the Body's hit the floor" while playing any FPS or RE4. Works great.

I tend to play FPS with something light and counteractive to the furore of the game. Any of Chopin's various etudes, for example. I find that it creates a psychopathic bubble around me where I become immersed solely in the extinguishing of other gamers.

Minimal/Chillout/Lounge music goes hand in hand with Mirror's Edge.
For other platformers, like Assassin's Creed or the new Prince of Persia, I'll play some Opera.
Actually, opera can go with pretty much anything I play, but I'm just weird like that.

I've always got music on when playing, and it's pretty much the same, no matter what kind of game it is. It's either metal in the lines of Cradle of Filth, Anthrax, Disturbed or Nightwish... or something silly like Stephen Lynch(who on a side note is a god) or Voltaire.

I wouldn't dare put my MediaPlayer on shuffle, 'cause I'd end up listening to something I wasn't in the mood for.

Not so keen on music whilst I play. If I'm playing a mindless, repetitive game like CS or a LONG game like Supremme Commander I'll probably put something on. If it's Bioshock or Fallout it tears me out of the atmosphere.

Suppose I'm a sucker for a good sound scape.

Anything by Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, or Hans Zimmer is fair "game" for games like Mass Effect.

Certain soundtracks like The Dark Knight and Iron Man are good for games like GTA or Call of Duty.

I don't use any music for Fallout 3, though. It just doesn't fit.

FPS: Metal, Elektro/Industrial
RPG: Background Music (tends to be good); in case of Lineage II, vent only.

Beethoven piano sonata's while playing FPS online, all of my classical music in shuffle for RTS, and I reckon everything (mostly hiphop/jazz/triphop/lounge/etc) while playing RPG's.

with some games i prefer to listen to the games own soundtrack, like panzer dragoon or eternal sonata. i think their soundtracks are just so perfect for the games themselves

Everything; rock, punk, oldies, metal, jazz, rap, blues, hiphop, classical, folk. If it's appropriate to what I'm playing? awesome! If it's way the hell off? Juxtaposition points!

Listening to music that completely deviates from the mood of the game I'm playing is great for laughs. Try listening to Disturbed while playing Viva Pinata or Walking on Sunshine during Condemned.

Also, It's The End of the World as We Know It is great for any apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic game (CoD4 or Fallout 3).

Also, I hold Rare games (Banjo-Kazooie in particular) as the pinnacle of original videogame music. They're just so damn awesome.
