While I was waiting for WoW to finish it's Wednesday Fix, I decided to hit Kongregate and play the first game that catches my eye. That game was Music Catch 2.
I played Music Catch 1 when it came out on Kongregate, and I loved it, but I wanted a bit more variety inside it. It was great, and the formula was a solid gold, but needed something more. Music Catch 2 introduces alot more variety from the last game. New shapes to catch, new patterns, new shape movement scheme, and new songs!
The basic principle of the game is still the same. Catch the greeny-blue shapes, catch the yellow ones to power up, avoid red ones, and pick up the really colorful ones to activate the power up. While this may sound like a standard catch game, this game mixes it up a bit by adding music to the equation.
The piano will play heart-warming classical music, the kind that relaxes you and is perfect for stress relief. The shapes will appear in sync with the music, and yellow and red shapes appear when it livens up. This is a very nice touch, and makes the game much more enjoyable.
However, there is still a bad points to this game, but not enough to make me stop loving it. There aren't enough songs for one. There are only a few, but the game compensates for that with an option to add a song on there yourself using an MP3 URL. I had no idea how to work this, so instead I just used the songs they provided. That is the only bit of criticism I can, and will come up with.
I'm actually a little miffed this isn't the best game on Kongregate, It's number 4 of the highest rated games, behind Sonny, Gemcraft and Sonny 2. Music Catch 2 is definitely better than them. I never liked The Sonny series too much anyway, but I guess it's for some people only, while others won't like it. As for Gemcraft, I thought it was tedious and boring, so why does Kongregate Under-appreciate this Magnificent game? It must have been infected by people with no taste whilst I was asleep. Who knows?
The game is fabulous, just missing out on Perfection by a hair. This just makes me want Music Catch 3 now, with new songs, and much more. Please
Bottom Line: This game reeks brilliance and peace and enjoyment come out whenever it is played.
Recommendation: Play it. It's brilliant and everyone should share in it's brilliance. You don't have to pay for it to play it, but even if you did have to, you should anyway. It's that good.
