Recent topics, which I will not name, have got me thinking.
We as human's acknowledge that people have different opinions and have a right to them. So why is it that people get so up in arms about Music choices. Personally I don't feel any animosity for any specific genre or any one that listens to any genre I don't like. But I have personally had people yell at me for my music tastes saying that it was 'crap' 'gay' and various other expletives. I'm just wondering why people feel the need to fight over music tastes?

I'm lucky when it comes to music.

I don't really listen to it. First song I've listened to in the last couple of months is what I have on loop right now.
Nothing more.

Not fond of music so I wouldn't know why.

I've never really gotten that either. I listen to what i like and don't care what others think, i won't be hating on other people for their opinions. I may think to myself that i would rather chop off my ears than listen to it, but it's not like i'm being forced to listen to anything. I have preferances to music as does anyone with ears, but i never let that stand in the way of liking other genres either so let me piss off a lot of people by saying that i can listen to Nickelback or Green Day just as well as Iron Maiden, Van Halen or others.

God only knows, but I admit I do it to a degree. Not much of a fan of a lot of rap/hip-hop, but I'm able to stay away from the garbage. So long as I don't have to listen to it, it's all good. I just get annoyed when people trash talk ALL rap.

Oooh, a trap! And I was so tempted to argue it,too! But, you're right on the opinion thing!
---

Music conveys so many different thoughts and emotions, or, alternatively, a complete lack thereof. What I call "Song of the Day!" another calls "What the Hell was that?!"

Am I wrong? Is he wrong? Nobody is wrong, but we love defending to the death the stuff that we enjoy. I don't argue on music tastes, but I will occasionally raise an eyebrow at something someone calls 'good,' and I simply don't feel at all.

Music is music, and humanity would be 'teh suck' without it. We should all enjoy what we enjoy, and when we cross paths with those who groove to our beat, let us groove in unison!

I used to jump on people's asses for listening to the worst of the wrong genres. Then I started to expand my tastes, now I just dog on people for listening to the worst of any genre. These days people are prone to listening to 21st century rap and thinking that Drake and Kid Cudi represent the best that the genre has ever seen, so that's pretty awful.

I really don't care what kind of music people listen to. I understand that people have a HUGE variety of opinions and interests, so every kind of music is fair play in my book.

I'll stick to my rock and electronic, though.

Currently, I'm into big beat. Chemical Brothers and Crystal Method.

Check out She's my Pusher by Crystal Method. Can't stop listening to it.

Because sound is probably the most annoying sense. You can look away, you can breathe through your mouth, you can not touch, you can refuse to eat but it is remarkably more difficult to stop hearing something. So we do our best to make people play something we prefer or failing that not something that is offensive to the ear.

I don't really care what music other people listen to, but some music is just bad. I don't care about the genre; just because it's not my preferred type of music doesn't mean it's bad. I can still appreciate it. But some music is. It's just...bad. No matter what your preferences are. So I'm against that.

Because, as humans, we want to make everyone conform to our thoughts. I personally don't care at all what people say about the music I listen to, although I will argue. But I don't really rag on other people's music choices, so I'm kind of out of this.

As a musician, there is some kind of reasons though.
We do not like some types of music (rap/hip hop/pop/etc) simply because anyone can do it. Now, that's not a bad thing, it's just that when someone does something, there are going to be wannabes that are going to basically copycat the authors. Take for example Nickelback.
Also, because those music genres (or at least most of them) do not require much skill. They only need a synthesizer, just do whatever and they call it music. Sure, not all of it are like that, but a good number is. And not everyone want their favorite genre to be the only one heard though.

It's not that I have anything against pop music itself, but the fact that pop artists get paid so much to produce such basic music while more talented musicians can barely afford to pay their bills bothers the hell out of me.

I listen to most genres of metal, drum and bass, dubstep, acoustic music (mainly fingerstyle guitarists) and dabble a little bit into pop music ie Lady Gaga.

It's amusing because people hate me for it.

But I enjoy all music....

I only hate on rap, since the culture surrounding it I feel is ruining a large chunk of society...and stuff like Beiber (which I bet is the thread you got this idea from) since well...the same reason as rap. Though it causes dumb girls more than racism and sexism and bigotry and being unable to speak english. (though it does often promote chat speak, I swear I wanna beat that iCarly girl for her song "missin u")((I know if it cause I like Spongebob))

It's not just music that people fight over.
It's less the music itself and more the arguing that causes it. When people have the luxury, especially when they're young, they want to talk about things and taking a stand on something is the easiest way to do it. It's more to pass the time on something relatively important rather than actually arguing about something that truly matters and is much too controversial.
