Okay, what with the 'Supermoon' tonight (as they're calling it on Twitter) I have an urge to listen to Florence and the Machine's moon-related song 'Howl' tonight. While searching my iPod I realised I have it on my laptop, but not on there, so I decided to transfer it. Only to find that even though I have the entire album that song is from burned onto my laptop from a CD (one my brother bought legitimately, thus resulting in DRM-protected music), iTunes won't allow me to add it to a playlist, because of the DRM protection. Note that when listening to music on my laptop I usually use Windows Media Player.

The same problem applies to plenty of my songs. I have a hell of a lot of music, bought from stores, that I've since burned onto my laptop, and it's all protected by DRM. I really want to put these albums onto my iPod (hardly a crime, as I bought and paid for these albums myself), but I don't know how to circumvent the DRM to do so, and all methods I've found on the internet require burning and ripping the albums onto blank discs. Again, something I can't do, because for several months my disc drive hasn't worked, it won't even open, and I haven't gotten round to getting it repaired yet.

Which is where you all come in. If anyone knows how I can remove the DRM from these song files, I'd be exceptionally grateful. I'm going out now to get pizza and Coke, so I'll be gone for about half an hour, hopefully when I get home someone will have posted a solution that works :D.

Wow, so does nobody have any advice or help for me? I thought someone would know what to do, surely?

Also, this pizza is freaking awesome :D.

Ah, music DRM strikes again. You could go get one of those programs that rips the song to another, non-protected format, but honestly, I would just go torrent the music in question. You paid for it, and you want to put it on a device that you own, so in this case it's perfectly legal and moral to do something like that.

That actually crossed my mind, but I'd rather save that as a last resort due to the sheer number of albums I have that I want to copy... Hint, it's a lot.

So, wait, you have them on your computer...right?

How do you try to put them into iTunes? The easiest way is to drag and drop the music files into an open iTunes window. Try it and see what happens.

Tried it, same thing happens. It says that iTunes can only convert or import unprotected files, whereas the albums I have on my laptop are all protected. Stupid DRM, hurting the legitimate user and not the pirates... :(

There's nothing for free. I think Tunebite removes the DRM, but it costs twenty bucks and I'm not sure if it's legal (my friend uses it).

I used Windows Media Player to rip the songs straight from the albums. It keeps the DRM intact on each song, though, which is where the headaches are setting in. It's more awkward now because I want to transfer the last few albums I bought as well, to my laptop, which I'll have to do via my Xbox hard drive and USB drive because of my disc drive no longer working. Which means more albums on my laptop that I can't put onto the iPod...
