Music in Games

my question is simple my fellow escapists.

what song do you listen to(or what genre) when playing games(Campaign or multiplayer)?

mine would be a large list of heavy metal, Death metal and electronic music

why do I ask? out of curiosity, I guess

I typically stick the soundtrack for most of my games. One of the major reasons I play is for plot immersion and interactive story telling, and music is very much required in order to draw me into that level of psychosis that I only come to as the end credits are rolling and I realize that twelve hours have just gone by.

As far as MP goes.... usually movie/game soundtrack. -__- I'm a classical nut...

For multi-player shooters I listen to Classic Rock, Punk Rock, Alternative, and of course a bit of Classical. (What, a man can't listen to the 1812 Overture while playing some Team Fortress 2?)

Tchikovsky is always good, but I have a special love for soundtracks for some reason. Hans Zimmer is excellent. Greg Edmonson is responsible for both Uncharted games AND Firefly/Serenity; however, one of my all time favorites is Henry-Gregson Williams, I mean just look at his resume...

The Mass Effect 2 soundtrack. It's amazing. So is Jack Wall. Tali's theme in particular just makes me love this game even more.

I tend to listen to the game music until it gets annoying, since I play a lot of Sandbox games this happens rather early in the experience. Even games with MASSIVE soundtracks like GTA grate eventually. I'm playing Saboteur at the moment and the radio got boring after about three hours. I tend to listen to a lot of Mars Volta, Interpol, Guns n' Roses, AC/DC and the BSG soundtrack. Depending on how long I play a game I sometimes make up an individual playlist for it.

I also generally stick to the game's soundtrack. When I'm playing something over LAN like Unreal Tournament I'll usually pop open iTunes and play whatever's handy. Industrial's a popular choice for me for that sort of thing.
