Current situation be this me friends, my zune is failing me, it's long service shant be forgotten but I need to forget the thing and get a new mp3 player. So I came here, to the reasonably helpful Escapist community to ask aid in a quest for a new tiny music player.

Now just to start out I'm going to say no fruitfucker technology (Apple products), I would like the space on it to be reasonably large, and it has to withstand prolonged exposure to yours truly so it has to be nigh indestructible (or at least have customer response that doesn't make me want to gouge my eyes out).

For the rest of the Escapist who can't offer any suggestions for me, how about some stories related to your mp3 players? Like my cousin who lost her Ipod in winter and didn't really make a big deal out of it. Then my Grandmother (or Aunt can't remember) in the spring finds an Ipod in the melting snowbank. They actually salvaged it in the end, she used it for another month before it broke. Funny seeing her explain why the Ipod was glitching to the clerk. :p

I'd recommend the sansa, its like 100 bucks, and holds about seven GB. Funny story though, my first Mp3 player, I dropped in piss.

I'm using the Zune HD, because it's one of the few things on the market that has an HD radio, and I like that. I haven't had any issues with durability of the Zune. It's taken a few falls and made out like a champ. The only issue I have with it is that the stock headphones suck, and I keep killing replacement earbuds. I've gone through 5 sets in 2 months. Tried Rocketfish, Philips, and on my second set of Skull-Candy.

But before, I had an old 30gb philips jukebox that was pretty darn sweet, until it started to crap out on me, and stopped being recognized on my computer.

Well I would suggest the Sony Walkman 16Gb for $100. It's about the size of a Zippo except a little taller and thinner depth wise. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Walkman-NWZE345BLK-Video-Player/dp/B002IPH9ZO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1282160908&sr=8-1

I have a piece of shit iPod Nano, and I can't wait for it to break so that I have an excuse to get a Zune.

So why do you need a new one? Zune has all the things I'd want out of an mp3 player.

Nothin' wrong with Apple. Just seems really elitist and pretentious to disregard them out of hand.

Buy an ipod nano, the older models, theres a reason apple dominates the MP3 market, and thats the build quality, if you dont want to shell out for a latest model, i still use my 3rd gen nano, and it's amazing, they'll only be around £50 now, and they hold 8GB, the new nano's with HD camera are starting from £90 at 16GB, drop your pretense about apple, and buy a great mp3 player. Or there's always sony

I wil be honest with you, as much as I hate Apple their MP3 players are the best on the market. If you truly do not want to give money to Apple then you're would try and get a Walkman but I strongly recommend a proper Ipod though because it has served me well

Why not go for another Zune? If you look around you should be able to find a 120 for a decent price maybe, and if not the HDs sure do look tasty if a little on the expensive side.

I bought a Zune 30 about three years ago and it's still working perfectly for me. The only issue that I've had with it is the same issue that everyone with a 30 had a couple of years ago when they all froze up for a day because of that bullshit leap year bug that should never have happened.

Mostly because it's glitching out more and more often, plus I've cracked the screen quite a bit already :)

Issue with considering an apple product would be three things, the first I have a strong dislike for Apple, a standpoint I intend to keep regardless of how ignorant or inconvenient it is (plus nothing has come along that has been good enough for me to even reconsider it). Secondly if I were to get an apple mp3 player I'd just get an Iphone and not ask you guys. The third guy I have a strong urge to punt/punch Ipods when I see them.

To everybody else, appreciate the feedback guys! The Sony Walkmans seem very appealing right now, but I've decided to leave this to a later date (I.E. run the Zune into the ground before replacing it).

I've got a Zune HD, and it's pretty awesome. Not too expensive, and pretty damn durable. My only gripe is that it's sort of hard to see what's on the screen in direct sunlight.
