So, watching music videos on youtube got me thinking. Has the look of a band ever effected your opinion of their music? Now I don't mean if their look brought you to sample their music. I'm talking about a band you already like to whatever degree and, upon seeing a picture/video of them, your opinion of their music changes.

For me I can think of one time. I enjoy Thousand Foot Krutch a bit. Not in my top five or even top ten bands but I don't want to jam rusty nails in my ears when I hear them. As with most music I heard them before I saw a video/picture of them. Some of their stuff is pretty good. Then I watched a video. Upon seeing the lead singer my opinion of them fell. Now that doesn't mean I completely hate them. I can still listen from time to time. They just moved down my mental list a few spots. I don't even know why. Just something about him doesn't sit well with me.

So anyways, I'm just curious if this has happened to anyone else.

I'm not so vein when it comes to music tastes and imagery, after all it's just one's personal taste in clothing and that can't decide whether or not I like a band. Though I do know what you mean, many of my friends hate the bands I like because of how they look, eg. The Cure of which I think make brilliant music regardless to how they want to appear.

It's a funny world we live in but for some reason imagery changes everything about everything. Imagine if Coca-Cola and Pepsi had the opposite colour scheme, I bet you there'd be some great changes in opinion there.

I've always found it the reverse. I hated Bring me the Horizon until I saw some of their merch.
I still don't like them, but I don't despise them as much as I did.

I listen to Classical music about 99% of the time. The other 1% is Jazz from before the 1950's, so no, looks certainly don't affect me! XD

Well a good example for me is ICP. I first heard them and was like "eh" then i saw a couple of pictures of them and i enjoyed them a whole lot more then i already kind of did when first hearing them.

One day I heard the song Aerials and was informed that it was by the band System of a Down. Upon further investigation I looked 'em up on the old Youtube and watched the music video for Hypnotize. Beforehand I had little to no interest in music and then a week or so later I went out, took all the money I had and bought an acoustic guitar. 4 years later and making/listening to music is what I spend most of my waking life doing.

Looking back, I believe it was the song's lyrics that ignited my passion for music. The band sang of their awareness of grave issues existing in the world while they themselves still feel distant. I try my best to help with humanitarian efforts and social injustices but at the same time
I feel a lot like Serj and Daron when they sing, "I'm just sitting in my car and waiting for my girl."

The imagery of the video Hypnotize definitely also had an effect, the bands body language and the overall elegance of the performance.

For me the appearance of the band may CONTRIBUTE to my opinion, but I at least give them a chance....Unfortunately, I was spot on with my loathing for KISS and Pink Floyd even after giving their music a chance.....Then again though, I'm not into too much music, at least according to the what's considered the norm for music collections.
