Hiya escapists.

When someone complains about how music was just better back in the day (as often happens) it is standard procedure for someone to shoot in and explain that - as cracked does so elegantly illustrate - there was just as much shitty music back in the day, we just don't remember the crappy songs [http://www.cracked.com/article_18983_5-complaints-about-modern-life-that-are-statistically-b.s._p2.html]. We don't even necessarily remember the popular songs, only the good ones.
Indeed, in the year 1969, the song topping the billboards was not Gimme Shelter by the Rolling Stones, or some other well remembered and "good" song.
[sub]This was what occupied the top spot that particular year.[/sub]

So after this particular enlightenment has brightened your view of today's music, and you have come to realize that humanity is not so hopeless as to remember songs like this:
or this
[sub]Okay, after listening to that a second time, maybe it does deserve to be remembered.[/sub]
but rather remembers songs like this:

I feel I must ask you: What songs from the last 10 to 20 years do you believe will be remembered for the future?

Why yes, I have read too many cracked articles lately, what's it to you?

I'm still confused, what's wrong with Justin Bieber? He's just a generic pop singer, sure he's really popular, but he got there through talent, he doesn't just autotune everything, he just writes out songs (and may I remind you, this is something some metal musicians fail in because take like Rob Zombie, he writes like 20-40 seconds of a song then copies it until it's reached ~2:00-3:00 minutes) about his feelings and they get through. Sure they aren't that special but who really cares. The only annoyance is his voice, but even then look at AC/DC, the lead singer sounds like a midget, but with the guitars and drums along with make up of the songs it gets alot better.

Chances are though that Lady Gaga will make it through to be remembered forever, much like Madonna.

Though what I hate the most is Weird Al, he's a great muscisian, but he only comes out of nowhere every other year, I mean his career started in the 80's, yet no one remembers those songs as much, even if they were brilliant.

Personally, I don't have anything against Justin Bieber. Like you say, he's just a generic pop singer. And that's my point, he is absolutely generic, maybe even sub par. There's no rational reason that his music should be this popular, and his music won't be remembered for the future.

DJs will not let anyone forget that song, ever. The 90's were truly the zenith of musical quality. Who could forget such talent like Spice Girls and VengaBoys? Boom, boom, boom, boom!!

This crosses my mind all the time. I sort through donations of records and tapes, and I recognise a handful that come through a lot, but I'm still wondering who the hell they are.

I still listen to Aqua sometimes. I think a lot of music that stands out is just catchy stuff that was ingrained into our brains as children.

Maybe that one only really stuck in in my memory because I was thinking "wtf" because of the fangirls.

American Idiot, Bad Romance, Welcome to the Black Parade, All The Small Things, and Where Is The Love are a few pop songs I think will be memorable.

I wonder if teenagers in a few decades will listen to My Chemical Romance and the like, like so many people my age and younger listen to Nirvana and other older bands, and if that will feel weird for us. I bought a Pink Floyd shirt for my friend when I was with my mum and it felt weird because she used to listen to them.
