I don't really do music while gaming, except for when I'm on something like Skate or Saint's Row.
In which case it's normally a mashup of Nirvana, RHCP, Alter Bridge, Iron Maiden, and The Cure.

Depends on the game. If it has good music, then I listen to the ingame music, like in Guilty Gear or Devil may Cry, but if the game has bland music, then I just load up iTunes and turn my speakers up.

Depends on wot I'm doing.

If it's basic quest grinding, it's usually electronic music--The Knife, Goldfrapp, Röyksopp, Ladytron, et al.

If I'm PVPing, I have outstanding Motörhead & Einstürzende Neubauten channels on Pandora that gets me "in the mood". :D

I occasionally listen to music. I tend not to in multiplayer, and do when I'm alone [although, only occasionally]. The music I listen to will vary widely, reflecting my taste in music.

I only listen to music when gaming if a story is absent or I need to grind for hours in an RPG.
When I do listen to music, I just leave it on my top rated songs on Shuffle. There's over two hundred songs there so it keeps me entertained.
Yeh, I agree with this. I couldn't listen to anything whilst playing Shadow of the Collosus because that'd ruin the feel of it, but a grindy game like say Final Fantasy (insert number) makes me plug the audio plugs and listen to some Springsteen.

I tell you, it is hilarious to beat an 'epic' boss whilst listening to the song 'Cadillac Ranch', or a cover of 'War'.

I usually enjoy games' BGM enough to not need other music going.
Though the WinAmp plugin for Black and White was nice.

Well, I frequently mess around with the music in Oblivion. Currently I've changed everything to Mastodon songs, and it makes for a really odd atmosphere.

While playing MMOs or shooters without much of a story (or any game where the story bores me to tears), I always have my own music to listen to. I mostly listen to metal, but it can range from happy-melodies-power-metal like Stratovarius to the most brutal death metal like Nile.

Example from yesterday: I was playing through the last two-three hours of Dante's Inferno. Good action game, but the story is just complete bull IMO, so I had some Dark Tranquillity playing in the background instead. Did wonders for the feeling.

I usually listen to what the game has to offer. It's usually good in cases like CoD (Hans Zimmer) and games like Mass Effect. It's also crucial to hear your enemies move around, gives you an upper hand.

certen games, like bioshock and mass effect 1, oh, and MW2, it calms me down from all those model users and campers and such.

I never listen to music when playing shooting games. I miss so many audio cues if I do: Footsteps, gunfire, microphones.

But in strategy or role play games I just whack my entire library on shuffle and skip any songs I don't feel like.

If there's in-game music I don't listen to music.

During multiplayer I just put my collection on shuffle. My collection consists of soundtracks and classical music and is over one thousand tracks strong.

No. Too distracting. I need to listen for what's around me and I can't do that with music on.

I don't listen to music. Besides, most games I play have awesome scores that I'd prefer to listen to anyway.

When playing for example Counter-Strike or DotA, I normally listen to Soilwork, In Flames and Scar Symmetry.

As someone else said, if I'm grinding I'll put my itunes on shuffle. Generally though I quite like a lot of game music.

Depends on the game. If I'm playing something like an RPG or stealth game, no. They usually have their own kickass music, or I need to listen for what's around me. But if I'm playing an MMO, or an unsophisticated shoot-em-up, I crank up some metal, and raise hell.

Depending on the game, if its something like a free-roamer. I'll have Dinosaur Jr.

Webswinging and music is great thing for passing time.

I listen to what ever my iPod shuffle brings when playing RTSs and WoW. But when playing shooters online I like to be able to hear what's going on, so no music
