Just as a casual question how many people listen to the in game music while playing and how many play their own stuff? I usually listen to my own stuff while playing MMORPGers as the constant hack slash grr of countless wolves gets a bit dull after a while

your thoughts?

I'm not really into metal but can understand how its speed would help build the tension. I tend to go for classical pieces while exploring just to impose a bit of grandeur on the world

Have to play my own stuff for MMORPGs, or I go insane. Had to play my own stuff for Kingdom Hearts I and II, because the disney music was making me hallucinate and think weird things. Other than that the game music is usually fine. Katamari Damacy's music is awesome and really got me into Japanese music.

If you hallucinations involved Donald duck fighting alongside a spiky haired boy and goofy... that wasn't a hallucination, we all saw it....

I don't do MMORPGs but when I normally game, I listen to the music currently playing, as I usually find it more suitable for the game, and will continue to do so until I find a game that suits this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtEc8UkQ6Ec].

Generally I do in-game music, unless it gets really repetitive *cough*magicthegatheringarcade*cough*, in which case I usually default towards stuff like Iron Maiden.

My favorite genre is classical, but I'm more of a listen FOR music rather than listen TO, so turning on classical tends to distract me. (Shut up.)

I tend to listen to the in-game music. The music has to iredeemably bad before I mute it and play my own music.

Either that or the game has to be easy enough to play without any sort of sound at all, in which case, its in with the iPod. The best example of that, for me, are handheld games like Pokemon or WarioWare: Mega MicroGame$, where it doesn't matter if you have sound.

Normally have iTunes running in the background when I'm on WoW or playing a racing game but other games I normally turn the music off if I can as I feel more immersed in it and I'm scared I'll miss something

The ingame music mostly, especially when the game has (duh) fantastic music. Like Portal, Half Life 1/2, WoW, AoC, the Halo series. However, once I played Gears of War 2 while listening to Living in the Sunshine from Tiny Tim. That was hilarious.
