This is one of those "more involved" threads that asks you to do a bit more than post a witty sentence. So if you're not into putting in a little effort, the "you just woke up next to ____, who is it?" threads are that way *points*
<spoiler=Now for the ACTUAL thread>For my friend's psychology class, he has to do a musical analysis.
That sounds awesome, listen to music for marks, but since it's a 3rd year class, he has to analyze the fuck out of his music selection.
What he has to do, is choose any album or record of his choosing, listen to it, and every 30 seconds, stop and write a short paragraph about his feelings at that particular moment, and what his brain activity probably looks like.
The purpose of the assignment (besides making listening to music, a chore) is to get a rough analysis of how music affects our moods and thought process. Its actually quite interesting (besides all the boring biological crap he has to memorize).
This got me thinking about an interesting idea: listen to a song, stop every 30 seconds, and think about how the song is affecting me.
Why don't you give it a try! Pick a song, any song, and try this:
- write down what you are thinking about before you start listening to the song
- stop half-way through the song (or as frequently as you'd like) and write how you feel
- after the song is done, write down how you feel now

It is important that you don't force anything. Don't make the song affect your mood, that completely ruins the point. Just go along with it (this can be a bit tricky)
Also, keep in mind that you are not analyzing the music, you are analyzing how the music affects you. So those sweet riffs and vocals mean nothing in this exercize, what matters is how it changes your mood.

One last thing: I am sorry if this isn't your thing, and after reading all this, you go "that sounds stupid, fuck this".
I just find it fascinating that viking metal can calm me down, and classical makes me think of zombies...

Alright, an assistant professor at UT directed this. I'm thinking about how weird this'll be coming from Austin and all. Predicting a weirdness quotient of maybe 80-85ish.

(Halfway) Fucking knew it.

(End) I don't know what this is, and I feel a very strange sensation in my head near my ears. I think my brain is melting.

My analysis.
Song, KMFDM - Ultra
I actually came across this song 2 days ago, and find it really cool. This analysis will be fun :D
<youtube=N6wzgRy71M0>

Start: on the bus home, packed with people on their way home, I could use a distraction...
Mid: this makes me think of NIN + Matrix for some reason. It also makes me think of dark things like necromancy.
End: now I am thinking of Frankenstein, except instead of how the book goes, Frankenstein's monster attacks his master at every moment, and Frankenstein has to get the military to help him destroy his monster.

Someone (or all of you) do one on this:
<youtube=6QFwo57WKwg>
I would, but I've watched it about 10 times, so that kind of ruins it.
Besides, I'd love to see someone's initial reaction to this vid, lol

This is a normal song I listen to.

Before: I'm kind of bored and a little sleepy
1:01 of song: The song starts to kick in for me once it goes into that little synth like part.
1:15 of song: My foot starts moving to the beat and I become more awake.
2:06 of song: I stop what I'm doing and just listen to the song.
2:46 of song: I start to lose interest because the song is going slower.
End of song: Mood is the same as when it started but I have a desire to listen to the song again.

OK, I'm having a case of insomnia so why not:

Before - HOLY SHIT!!! 271 million views?!? Mt country has only 50 million citizens!!!
0:30 - The beat is not bad and the bastard child of Dean Martin and Luke Perry has a nice voice (so far, it's passable), might be pleasant after all
1:00 - the chorus is as generic as you can get, I can't remember any line from it even just seconds after hearing it. Also, why is that little black girl having spaz attacks every few seconds? I think someone should call the paramedics or something.
1:30 - What exactly is he singing about and why do I seem to care less and less about everything around me?
2:00 - Seriously, I think that girl is having a stroke. Somebody do something. I'm really concerned.
2:30 - Oh god... kid, your making me nauseous. Who taught you how to rap, your dad? (checks the kid's bio)... oh god...
3:00 - Jackie Chan!!! Do something, please!!! Save the shattered remains of my sanity!!!
3:30 - I wonder what gasoline tastes like...
After - $£"%^&*(*)*&^%$£
