So, yes, they're a rather Marmite topic, but personally I can't get enough of them (although that could be something to do with my theatrical backgrounds) and I was just wondering which is your favourite, whether you prefer the classics or the newbies and...pretty much anything else you want to add to that ^_^

I think it's incredibly difficult to pick a particular favourite, but in my top 5 there's;
Repo! The Genetic Opera http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repo!_The_Genetic_Opera
Avenue Qhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avenue_q
Les Mis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Mis
Blood Brothers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_Brothers_(musical)
and Across The Universe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Across_the_Universe_(film)

I don't watch them much, but I think that Les Miserables is the most awesome musical imaginable. Blood Brothers and Phantom of the Opera are also awesome. Joseph made me fall asleep though.

They all work for me except the last one.

If you like newbies you should see:

8 Women - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8_Women
Cannibal The Musical - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannibal!_The_Musical
Dancer In The Dark - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dancer_in_the_Dark

Nothing really beats The Sound Of Music though.

My brother went to see Cannibal! The Musical at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, his conclusion was, "Interesting..." and that was all he would say, lol.

Umm... Phatom of the Opera

I haven't seen Repo, but I'd like too
I adore the Phantom of the Opera, and Repo! is something rather special, Anthony Stewart Head is incredible in the movie and Alexa Vega (Carmen from Spy Kids) is a surprisingly good singer.

We Will Rock you is one of the best musicals I've ever seen live. Its a story that's all based around the songs of queen, was kickass.

But yeah I'd say the newer kind of musicals are more to my tastes I like everything that rocks a bit from Grease to Repo!.

I was able to catch Les Mis on Broadway a number of years ago and it was fucking fantastic. Also, Avenue Q is the shit!

I was in my high schools production of Pirate of Penzance. It was the best thing I did in highschool, I met so many people, gained a hell of a lot of confidence and met two girlfriends.

Hmm.. Note to self... Do more musicals =D

Yeah, saw that a while ago and loved it. I don't usually do musicals. The closest I usually get is Once More with Feeling from Buffy, for which I have nearly worn out the DVD.

I played in a pit orchestra for Pirates once.
That is the first and LAST operetta I will ever do.
Never before has playing music been a physically taxing experience.

I wasn't terribly fond of Repo! I can see what there is to like, and why people loved it so much. But i didn't like the violence and they sung at the most innaproptiate times imaginable.
And the lyrics were horrificly cheesy.
Graverobber was badass though.
