I recently discussed with a friend of mine what was the first song you learned, all the way through, and I just wanted to see if I can see some sort of pattern.

Guitar player myself, learned 'Eight days a week' by the Beatles all the way through when I was 15 (started playing at 15 too XD)

So...what's yours?

The first song I learned.......Well, with me it'd be a piece, I suppose.

In any case, the first real piece I learned was a cello transcription from Massenet's Elegie (it sounds like a fantastically cool title with a ton of difficulty behind it, right? Well, the actual piece was not bad at all).

Musicans sounds like the name of a Pokemon.

With that out of the way, my piano teacher was adamant that I not learn "Chopsticks" ever - so I started out with a song entitled "The Typewriter." When I bought an updated edition, it had been changed to "The Computer," featuring an Apple Macintosh.

As a singer, there is no "first song" you learn.

Schism by Tool on bass. Took me days to get the rhythm of the main riff right. The rest of the song is a breeze once you get that.

The first song was tea time. For piano. You just hit middle C 3 times. Gayest song ever.

I can't remember my first song now :(

I think my teacher taught me parts of songs for a while. To practice on certain techniques. I enjoyed it lol.

5 Years down the line and still learning. Don't think I'll ever stop either :)

Seven Nation Army on acoustic guitar (was saving up for an electric, and borrowed my Dad's old acoustic to start training).

First cover song I learned was, I think, Wish You Were Here, by Pink Floyd. I didn't learn the whole intro-solo thing, tho, so it wasn't "all the way through". Actually, I've never learned anyone else's song "all the way through", and I hardly ever learn the "official" way to play anything. Usually I just figure it out by ear, which is more fun, and I get to change things.

But yeah, anyway, it was prolly Wish You Were Here. I was in high school, hung out with stoners, and had a hippie mom. (Ugh, and she'd get all drunk on wine with her friends, and they'd play horrible guitar and sing until they were too drunk to go on, and then she'd call me out and have me play songs for them, and they'd all ogle me and talk about how I was such a 'handsome and talented young man', and... dammit. I hate those fucking banshees.)

..Wish You Were Here! ..Most of it! ..Yeah!

-First song on clarinet: Hot cross buns (After five years, that song seems like it was written by Satan.)
-First song on bass: Time Is Running Out by Muse
-First song on piano: ..Can't remember. Too long ago.
-First song on guitar: Kiss The Girl from The Little Mermaid (Shut up.)
-First song on ocarina: Epona's song (obv.)
-First song on alto sax: ..Something about blues and/or swinging, I can't remember. Textbook stuff.
