So after reading the hobby thread I saw a lot of people play Guitar and one other person who plays Bass. This thread is for talking about this kinda stuff. Gear, Practice tips, gig stories, Theroy help.. Stuff like that

I play Bass and have for about 2 years. Im doing a bach of contemp music. I own a Fender 24 V five string and a very very poor amp. I like to play all kinds of music.. Jazz, Country, Metal 'n' stuff.

So yeah... Musicians of Escapist unite!!

I'm a french horn player and played trumpet for 5 years before that. I'm in my school's concert band and Symphony orchestra so that's pretty fun

I was a middling Trombone player (middle school, high school, college wind ensemble, marching/pep band, pit ensembles) until I graduated and got a real job. The last time I guilted myself into putting the ole girl together, my range was pitiful, and my teeth hurt like a sonofabitch. And that was after only a few months of being out of practice. I'd hate to find out what it would be like now. Still, the case sits in the corner, taunting me.

All I can say is, if you ever get the chance, play a pit gig. They rock. Some of my favorite musical memories.

I play bass and i have for 6 years. I prefer to play upright, though I'm fluent with both. I have a 70's Czech bass upright, an '84 Fender American J Bass with an '82 Original Fender Bassman 2x12 combo.

I play in my school's chamber orchestra and a local youth orchestra. I play in a jazz/alternative group with some of my friends, which is all originals. I do a lot of musicals because the other high schools don't seem to have good bass players so they hire me to play for them.

I also play a bit of guitar (acoustic) and piano, but only enough for songwriting.

I play guitar. I've been at it for about a year now. I've got an acoustic and a (used...) Strat that I usually play.
As for genre, pretty much the same stuff I listen to- alternative and classic rock.

My wife brought me a shiny new Fender Strat for Xmas. Been making some slow progress. Mostly just experimenting making noises. Hopefully get better soon.

Me and a mate lead the Low Brass section in our year 10 band playing the Euphonium. Hot damn that's a great instrument. We won silver out of around 70 bands in the Australian Student Band championships in Melbourne (grades 7 to 12) last year, for our section at least.

Right as we get back to school, the band is told we have 2 weeks to have 2 pieces fully rehearsed and ready for a performance outside of school. One week left -_-

Only thing is, it's a ***** to take the thing to and from school. I can't take my Eupho on the bus, so I have to rely on others giving me a lift.

Been playing guitar for about 9 years on and off - I don't practice enough, so I'm nowhere near as good as I should be after all that time. I have one shitty electric, one really shitty electric (neither of which I ever play), a cheap but quite nice Washburn 12 string that's a ***** to play / tune, and a Simon & Patrick SP6 Acoustic that is rather battered, but I love to pieces.

I basically just like to learn songs - I'm not much for improvising or composing - and I play pretty much anything from the 60s to the present day.

I found when I was starting out that Nirvana songs were fantastic to learn. Generally easy to play, but they sound good, on electric or acoustic.

As far as an Escapist band goes - 2 bass players, a shit load of guitarists and no drummer. Hmm, it could be a revolution in music!

Hmm... play the guitar (rather well...), the piano (only about a year... so not that brilliantly), and I used to play the violin (to about grade 3).
As for 'easy' songs, I learned to play guitar on a diet of Metallica riffs... (once you learn to play powerchords you can play along to almost any pop/rock song!)

Edit: wrt gear... A slightly battered electroacoustic, Yamaha Pacifica, Yamaha...ermm... Ibanez rip-off, a very battered 'classical' (nylon string); a 20W Marshall and a 100W Marshall... been playing for about 5 years now.

I play the guitar, but I also love synths! My particular fave at the mo is http://www.ymck.net/english/download/index.html, which is a plug-in that emulates a NES sound-chip!

You can hear my strange brand of music (and that NES emulation) here.....

Guitar (I used to play well, now it's chords all the way because I never practice). I have an American Model Strat which is tragically gathering dust and a 65W Fender amp. I also played bass for a while. As in, I got a bass and could instantly play it because I already played guitar. I played bass in a band until I wanted to beat the guitarists over the head with it in a jealous rage. Instead, I left. I can play Don't Stop Believing on piano. I got to Grade 3 and gave up. And now can play Don't Stop Believing. Oh and Jump.

Gee im not insulted at all..

Just cos you can pound straight 8th root notes doesnt mean you can play bass.. Just like me being able to play powerchords doesnt mean I can play guitar.

It's really obvious when a guitarist play's bass, so don't get too worked up.

I havent been playing long, but I've got a Fender P-bass, and I mainly play bluesy stuff, mixing it up with some makeshift metal whenever I can. I also do vocals, and have a shure mic + a stand and stuff. I only have one amp though, of low qaulity, and probably won't play outside of my home until I can afford a bigger one.

The first song I ever learned to play all the way through is Brain Stew, because it's all the same 5 notes played in the same order again and again. It's actually an OK song, though.
