Certain songs seem to be taboo when discussing music, especially the classics. It's not often that I hear someone say they dislike Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" for instance. Even being a long time Zeppelin fan I can honestly say I find it sorta menotinous. And that's the kind of thing I'm looking for. What songs are you amazed ever became classics? (Not here to start any fan wars guys so keep it mellow)

Let it Be... really? I agree with Sweet Child of Mine and everything else Guns and Roses but Let it Be? Well maybe you're right, it's definately not the best song by The Beatles.

I agree with anything by Bob Dylan, he couldnt sing great songwriter though. When others covered his music it worked.

Also anything by Nirvana or the Doors, in my view only famous for having a dead singer.

I can also live without Dark Side of the Moon by Floyd. its the Prog rock album everyone knows and that places it below my rather eliteist taste threshold.

And finally controversially Sabbath Ozzy cannot write lyrics. In the song Black Sabbath he comes out with the classic " people running cos their scared" well we didnt think it was a cardio vascular work out as he has already established Satans coming round the bend in the previous lines.....

In short I am a miserable old man who hates everything popularist!

I never really got Floyd, but I never did drugs so there you go. Nirvana also comes to mind, The Pixies were way better.

Well you don't really have to be high to enjoy Pink Floyd, maybe you just don't like them period.

Oh i think 2pac was better off dead? does that count. (music wise that is...cause i just didnt like it)

Elvis didnt do much original or interesting when it comes to music, he just took what jazz and blues where doing and made it more "white" friendly (you have to remember back in the day, they had differnt record companies for african american and Anglosaxon people, so using this term, was not racists, just a point of fact, b4 someone trolls my ass for saying it)

Yeah ozzy didnt really bring alot to sabbath.... he honeslty was only in the band cause he had a piece of equipment that the band needed... im no fan of ozzie

Yes i am a pink floyd fan, and they have alot of differnet sounds, they sound alot like the beatles in thier eairly stuff, then started to become more "stoner" later on...

Oh my closing statment I think Kiss are one of the worst bands in history....

EEEeeeaaasssssy there, buddy. Pac was the man, and still is. But I suppose you'd have to be a Hip Hop fan to get that.

I'd have to say Van Halen and Def Leppard never really blew me away almost ever, but everyone and their mom idolizes and wants to blow the bands. My friend told me a joke once.

"What has nine arms and sucks?"

The Answer...

Def Leppard.

Also I never found what the big deal was about Judas Priest (though I love Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath) and Rush. Rush easily makes some of the most BOOOOORING music I've ever had to sit and listen to. I don't care about the bass solo, its lame and boring.

Freebird is an annoyingly over-hyped yawn-o-tron in my opinion. And that oh-so-fab solo in there is just... blech.

You can't really say that... Both of these bands were positively huge back when they were active, IE. before their respective singers croaked. This is not a matter of opinion, so "in my view" is completely bogus here.

I think this is the first time I've heard someone say that. Piper was a way trippier album than anything else they ever did.

I (obviously) don't agree with that, but whatever.

Well, i'm surprised that Black Sabbath is mostly associated with Ozzy Osbourne, who is imo the worst singer the band ever had.

Nirvana...well...overrated, but likable, i'm just wondering why "Smells like teen spirit" is the most famous Song of the Band

I'm gonna open myself to the flamethrowers and actually defend the Bee Gees, I worked in a music store, and when the 'best of the bee gees came out, we were made to play it each day for a while, and apart from the 'silly high pitched disco stuff', their earlier stuff actually sounds like it could have been the Beatles.

Note I'm NOT saying they're as good as the Beatles, just that they could sound similar, and the whole 'staying alive' part of their work was quite a small one, just that it was their most famous stuff.

It's like Paul McCartney being more famous for the frog chorus than all his beatles stuff, really.

As for Nirvana, I thought they were good, but got lucky, I think Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden were at least two far better bands, personally.

Musically, perhaps. But not lyrically. And they didn't have the spirit. When you saw either SG or STP live you could tell that the chemistry was just not there, something both bands have discussed since. However, I think of all the "grunge" bands, Alice in Chains and Blind Melon trump them all.

And re: Freebird- it's not a horrible song, but it's just nowhere as good as everybody says. Why could it not have been Simple Man that rose to that status instead, for instance? It's leaps and bounds above Freebird in every facet.

Oh boy...somebody else trashing Floyd because "I didn't do drugs." Eek. That's like saying "I don't get comics because I'm not a twelve year old fanboy." One doesn't lead to OR require the other. Step outside of what you know, which, for most of you, I can just about guarantee begins and ends with Dark Side and The Wall. Also, there, Electric Discordian? Go out and get yourself a copy of "The Final Cut"...Roger Water's incessant whining just might give you a new appreciation for Dark Side(also, they use the 'fuck' word [!]). ;P.

Seriously, though...umm...Honestly(here comes the part where someone flames me back...)I could do without most of the Beatles (I know, I know, what with the whole "Pro-Floyd" rant I was just on...but for my money, they're a boy band that just happened to get their shxt together...), Kiss, the Stones (no defense for that one, just never liked 'em...), AC/DC has their moments...ahh, pretty much anything that was on MTV during the daylight in the 80's...The Eagles, GOD do I hate The Eagles (Yeah, yeah, get out of my cab, I know.) Let's see, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Fallout Boy, Green Day, and all the other Punk/Emo poseurs out there...time for an Operation Ivy reunion!

Right...this thing has seriously gotten away from me.

Seacrest out!

Everyone thinks Metallica are a great Metal band who have blah blah blah.
In conclusion, I HATE THEM. I like one of their songs. That's it.
I also don't like KISS. Once again, only like one song.
And then there's Nickelback. They are so mainstream it hurts. But it's not just about them being mainstream, it's the fact that ROCKSTAR IS A HORRIBLE SONG. I want to break my TV and start playing Lynyrd Skynyrd when I hear that god-awful song.
In conclusion, I probably haven't grasped the topic at hand correctly, but it gave me a chance to moan so... I'm happy.

HORY COW!!! You nailed her, there, pal. That's the real problem; good music going mainstream. Metallica's first few albums were fantastic, then they got famous and what? Shithouse. Nickleback's first album, The Street, was pretty good, then they got famous and what? Shithouse.

Oh trippy and stoner are 2 differnt things in my view tis all...stoner is alot more laid back "im so high on weed" sort of thing(wall and final cut sorta thing), where piper is like "im so messed up on acid" like later beatles. Ok enough of the drug refrences... btw you should put on some floyd when playing space sims, they go hand in hand :p

yeah im not a fan of hiphop, but like alot of things, his death seemed to have such a hype around it and you dare not speak ill of him to the fans of hiphop...which is what this topic was about :p
I dont get hiphop, but also my case and point being, i would bet a large sum of money that if he didnt die, he would never have ended up being the hiphop artists that has sold the most cds ever...
