Mutant Story

It struck me the other day that in any story I've read or seen or played (whatever) to do with humans gaining some form of mutant powers (X-men, heroes etc) the story will inevitably boil down to mutants vs normals. There are different methods sure those who want to stay hidden, normals segregating and tracking mutants, mutants taking over yadda yadda yadda. but in the end it all comes down to some form of them vs us.

So my question is...is there any other place to take these kind of stories? Please leave some ideas for new directions.

Well, it's pretty much the only interesting angle to take...Would be a pretty boring if everyone just hugged and made friends.

Well Mutants are only every really used to allude to discrimination. Which is fair enough, its a good way to make younger kids who may not be interested in this sort of thing normally pay attention (and occasionally they accidentally learn something too).
