this has only happened to me on modern warfare 2 and it's got to the point now were i've muted that many people every now and then when i join a random room there'll already be one or two people already muted. It's force of habit joining a room and immediately muting everyone in it to stop any foul mouthed twelve year olds before they get a chance, even found myself muting people who don't even have a mic in just in case they decide to pipe up mid game.
so is it just me being extremely antisocial or does this happened to any others?

I mute everyone, all the time.

Player communities tend to be on the ass-holeish side with FPSes. At least the ones I play, being on Xbox Live probably has something to do with that.

Hmmm... I never mute anyone, except the odd mic-spammer (If they just keep on spamming).
I just ignore them And I don't speak.
If I did, I'd just get bugged by immature people anyway...

The very few times I play an online shooter, I always mute everyone.

Usually I do. I can't stand snack munching or a trash talk session that always sounds like "YOUR MOM" and "CAMPER". I honestly just think my nerves are shot.

I mute 'em as they piss me off. I mean, I've met some cool people on MW2 who are good at teamwork and stuff, but some assholes just need to be banned.

One douchebag had a Riot Shield and came at an enemy from an angle, who had a clear shot at me. Naturally, I killed him, and the guy spent the match teamkilling me cause I stole his kill when I just didn't feel like dying.

I don't know how it works on 360 but on ps3 nobody knows who muted who.

I used to mute everybody, now I just mute them when they talk. Mainly 'cos I can't understand a word there saying.

Most of the time it's annoying noises and music.

The last time I did not mute everyone I had to spend an entire game listening to a 14ish year old kid insulting other people for killing him by calling them "Jewbags". This was in a time when I didn't realize you could mute people whilst actually playing.

Oh and let's not forget the amount of morons breathing heavily in their microphones or just spouting utter nonsense for 10 minutes.

Everyone feels the wrath of my mutehammer. Except the people I go into a game with as a party. Because I know that they won't be ass hats.

... Yes, that's extremely anti-social. But no one plays a game to be social I assume...
Else they'd take the next buss/pimp-mobile into town.

By the way, with that habit, and you'd play Left 4 Dead, people would spit and say "We don take kinds like you 'ere" and probably followed by a vote/kick. But that's an "if" situation of course.

Anyone with a mic, regardless if they are using it or not, will get muted. I joined the game to play it and enjoy myself, not to listen to other people talking etc.

Is there not some kind of option to disallow voice chat? Might save you some hassle.

The first thing i do is mute EVERYONE! I'm sick of hearing racial slurs from drugged up twelve year olds. And i'm just on the PS3 i'd hate to see what its like on the 360!

It's rare that I feel the need to mute, most people who have a mic don't annoy me.
The only online game that I play is TF2 and people there a mostly nice.

If I hear a high-pitched whine, 9/10 times I'm muting them.
Breath like you're running a mile into your mic? Muted.
Children in the background? Muuuuuuu-ted.
Prone to erratic yelling? Welcome to Mute Town, Population: You.
*Forgot one: Clans. I ALWAYS mute clans. Never gonna make that mistake again.

Call of Duty's community, I find, are one of the most obnoxious - second only to Counter-Strike.
So yes, I mute quite a bit.

On the PS3 there is an option to block all voice chat in all online games. Only had to ever use it once though

Was in the same situation in CoD: WaW.
There were roughly 24 people in the match, majority were trash-talkers/munchers/swearers/13-year-olds/mic-spammers who deserved to be muted and banned.

Sounds like another WaW match, but replace riot shield with sniper-hacker.
He spent the majority of the match camping on a ledge, taking anyone out he could see across the map and through roughly 11 walls. Stole his kill, and then this:

Welcome to Teamkilled. Population: The entire team!
He'd taken out every single person on our team on 3 seconds flat. Turns out he had these:
Wallhacks
Speedhacks
Aimbot
No damage
Bunnyhop
No recoil

Welcome to Banville, Population: That guy

i mute those who wreck the game. if they think they ae gods gift to games - mute
if they wont shut up about someone ending their killstrak or something - mute
12 year old screaming down the mic - mute

i think younger gamers get allot of grief though, just because they are unintentialy annoying doesn't make em bad. i got 3 on my friends list (they added me) and they do actaully use their mics respectfully. i for one was realy suprizes. it gave me hope for the future of gaming :D
