I've been trying to level up the USAS-12 lately (for the 4x sprint with Extreme Conditioning), and needless to say even with Steady Aim it's been a major pain in the *ss due to how weak most shotguns are in this game without Damage and Extended Mags. After downloading the 1.06 patch today I decided to play some FFA as usual and using the USAS with Red Dot & Focus and to my surprise I ended up dominating most of my matches with it. Maybe it's just me and I'm getting a feel for the weapon or something, but I definitely seem to be getting far more one-shot kills and at much greater ranges than normal. I fired at some walls to test the range and the pellets do seem to be going unusually far, though once again that could just be me. Is anyone else doing better with shotguns after this patch, or am I just getting better / lucky?

EDIT: In hindsight, "dominating" was probably exaggerating a bit. Actually being able to compete and win some FFAs is more like it. Still, I'm doing far better than normal. Also, I'm on PS3.

Hmm, I'll go check it out and get back to you. It definitely needed to happen with Shotguns being in the primary slot now, they were so mediocre.

edit: doesn't seem to be any patch on Steam, are you on a console or PC?

Patches are always good, I'm hoping IW make a serious effort to remove lag compensation. It's so completely and utterly flawed.

Last I heard shotguns were going to be "looked at" - although that was in response to complaints being made that the Extended Magazines increased pellet count made shotguns overpowered and cheap. Which is ludicrous, seeing as how it takes 28 levels of masochism to make them even remotely useful while pretty much every other weapon category is effective from the get-go.

I'd kind of assumed that the weapon class being "looked at" meant that they were going to be nerfed, since that's almost always what being "looked at" means. I'd be overjoyed to find out my assumption was false in this case, both because I like shotguns and because I'd love to see the incoming complaints from all the silly people who thought they were overpowered before the buff.

Wait why would anyone think shotties are overpowered? They aren't even comparable to most assault rifles or akimbo weapons (which are all REALLY broken in mw3). Akimbo machine pistols and steady aim really need to be looked at. So many people just arent looking down their sights anymore.

Interestingly enough, it's the same in Uncharted 3's multiplayer.

Everyone is just sprinting around doing the KAL-7/Arm Micro blindfire/melee combo. Aiming is a thing of the past, it seems.

Because many people out there have an over-inflated ego, can't accept that they were killed by another player, and go straight to making the assumption that if someone kills them with a weapon that they themselves don't use, it means that that particular weapon is overpowered, cheap, glitched, or a combination of the three.

The first shotgun I used was the Kel-Tec KSG-12. It's, from what I can tell, the shotgun most frequently considered to be the worst of the bunch. I used it because I liked the look, the reload animation, and the sound effects. It was freaking awful to level. The early games with it are pretty much the only games in which I had embarassingly negative scores. But I stuck with it, and once I had Extended Magazines and Damage, the thing was a beast. I could understand how someone might consider it "overpowered" at THAT point... but it was hell getting there, it still has some pretty big limitations which balance out its strengths, and it's most definitely not on-par with other weapons before that point. But of course, when I one-shot someone with it when I'm at that point where I've suffered for 28 levels to unlock everything, all that person will see is that they've been one-shot, and at that point.... OMG OVERPOWERED RAWRRRRR RAGE!!! NERFS!!!
