I just woke up to news that my dog of 17+ years can't even walk anymore... My mother and i decided it would be best to put him to sleep... So I'm here now, just waiting and doing every mundane task i usually do, with tears added into the fray... So now i don't know what to do to make the tears stop...

Has anyone at the escapist recently had any sad moments they want to share?

Not sure if this is sad but... I just had my last day of school, and I'm moving away next year and probably wont see the people I've gone to school with for three years in a looooooong time.
But on the bright side... Most of them were brainless pricks.

Sorry to hear about your loss though, I remember what is was like after my cat died :(

Sorry to hear about that, but why do you share this with random strangers? I'm just curious, as it's a phenomenon I've seen a lot on the web, especially here on the Escapist.

OT: Nope, luckily nothing sad happened to me in the recent past.

my brother died when he came back from overseas
he took a bit of shrapnel to the chest but when removing it the doctors left some inside it traveled through his body and caused internal bleeding
"Left some inside"?! Thats horrible! I'm fairly sure they can get sued for that kind of negligence!

I lost my brother when I was 15, he died in a car accident, so I feel your pain mate. Just do what you can to stop thinking about it.

Though I dont think everyone telling a bad story will make you feel better Ill go ahead. Its was a few years back but it was still hard. We had a momma cat and a dady cat and they had 4 kitten. Had them for 7 months and I come home and my mom tells me they got feline lucimia and we had to put them down. we had the dady for another year but then he had a heart attack on my chair.
Not fun but you do move on.

Nothing like that has happened to me lately. I've had so many pets die it doesn't really upset me any more, though they've only ever been guinea pigs, rabbits and hamsters. When my dog dies I know I'll be incredibly upset.

But I'd still be incredibly lucky, my dad lost his dad at about my age, that's a real loss.

Sorry to hear about your dog Zahri. I was deeply saddened at the passing of my first dog (hit by a car) but when my second dog died, I was sort of glad. The poor thing was incontinent, blind and was in pain a lot of the time.

Don't worry, at least he/she won't be in any pain any more. :)

I lost a pet turtle when I was about... 9-10? Was pretty sad. Other than that, I don't have any personal losses, so I won't pretend to sympathize, sorry.

It can be really hard to find and remove shrapnel. Even one piece that is accidentally missed can cut an organ or puncture a vein, and can kill you suddenly and with no warning. It's a sad thing, but even the best doctors with the best equipment can make a mistake or miss something.

It's been two years since I put my 13 year-old pitbulls to sleep. Brother and sister little mates. They where fantastic dogs, my family always enjoyed having them around. When my first son was born we moved into a house and they finally got their yard. Their health deteriorated, sadly, and the last year we saw them stumbling into walls and hurting themselves on steps.

It was a very difficult decision but I believe my wife and I made the right choice. Even though my son was only 3 at the time of their passing, he still recalls them both from time to time. We still have our Silky Terrier in the house, he?s going on 12 years-old. It was always fun to watch that little guy play with huge pitbulls.

Dogs are capable of bringing great joy into your life, just approach their final years with maturity and understanding. Let the tears flow and remember them fondly.

My condolances.

I lost my 14 year old dog 2 years ago. Must admit that I have never known a time in my life when it wasn't there. I know its a cliche, but time really does heal all wounds. Just hang in there.
The folks from the Escapist will always be there for you.

I know exactly how you feel, except for the insane age of your dog. My dog died the 20th of January and I too posted a topic here on the Escapist to get support. He only turned three years old, and I must admit I was attached to him, so I can just imagine how you feel...

Time heals all wounds, and mourning for very long can be painful and necessary but it's still not a good thing. I got completely over it in approx. three months, and by that logic it should take you 17 months, but please don't go that long, as it will be the worst part of your life. My only great advice is keep the good memories, the pictures/footage, but do not, under any circumstances think about the moments before, during or just after his death, that can even bring me back to tears.
