I once had a good dog and we went on many adventures, but it eventually got rabies and I had to shoot it.

/obvious movie reference

I own a dog, she's the best friend I have. I simply cannot imagine living my life without her.

A Jack Russell/Fox terrior, she's an absolute basket case, but has a personality better than some people I've met. I don't have pictures on hand.

And don't worry, I'm not a china doll, I won't get upset if someone on the internet isn't overly sensitive.
Well it was either that or go with "BTW that pic is HI-Larious!", which just seemed to be in bad taste, and of course simply ignoring the picture's silliness was a bit much for me.
Best of luck with getting over the sad bit, though a day or few of sadness for 16 Years of smiles seems like a rather good deal.

I truly do feel for you. I had a cat who was in the family longer than I was (she was 18 years old), then a few months ago she was acting up and within a few days she was gone. It was the worst feeling I've ever experienced. She was a master-grade arse kicker, never backed down from a fight even when extremely old.

We still have a dog, who we got a short while before she left us. He's only about 7 months old so he's still got a while lifetime to go. I do wish you good luck and happy times with future pets, my friend.

No, that's okay.

I use humour to remedy sadness, so putting something like that would have been fine.

But I understand where you're coming from, it's difficult to know how someone will respond, so it's best to be 'safe'.

Sucks ner vod, I've never been much of a pet person, but I know my stepdad was in a foul mood for months when his dogs died. One ended up in a fight with three other dogs and got it's back broken/twisted bad, and the other got underneath his dad's car while he was driving off and broke/twisted his back. He ended up putting them down and burying them. If it gives you a hint to how much he loved those dogs, he even made them coffins. (They were dachshunds by the way)

I wasn't stayin there at the time, but I know it wouldn't have been much fun living around him for that time (the death's were spread out by a couple of months)

Oh, and the bigger dogs that killed the one all ended up gut-shotted.

I know how it feels to lose a pet and I had my one dog max who was my pet for my whole life die about 3 years ago, it was a very sad moment in my life. But if it's any consolation I am going through something similar myself, it's not a pet though but I'll tell you if you want me to :p

My laz0rdog, named Sonic, sends his regards.

I too had a dog since I was a kid and we had to put her down a few years back. Granted we kept two of her puppies to let the legacy live on, but still miss that dog :(

PS. Yes, I know my bedsheets are the most masculine you'll ever see. Any minds blown will not be replaced.

I know that you brilliant people aren't going to lose any sleep over this news and I don't expect you to, but I like to think that this is my home on the internet. The place I visit more than anywhere else and the community I spend the most time with.
I hope I last long enough here that I can feel the same way.

So I'd like to use my little part of the internet to pay my respects to a friend.

Rest in peace Rosie, you were a great dog.

I'm sorry that this is the best picture I could find of you, but it's rather hilarious.

I'll see you on the other side.

Feel free to share your own pet related stories.
As a fellow Velociraptor and animal lover you have my sympathy.
My only dog was Beagle/Basset mix I had back when I was a baby. My dad's dogs had adopted him long before my parents got married. By the time I came around, Zeppy was the only one left. He died so long ago I can only really remember what he looked like through old photos.

My only other pet was a Guinea Pig I named Spatter (don't ask why, I have no idea). I used to sneak out of bed at night to play with him. After several years his left hind leg was paralyzed but he stuck around for a few months before he died suddenly one morning. I still bothers me because I was going to school at the time and was angry and frustrated with my own problems so I didn't give him all the attention I should have. My mom took care of him mostly at the end and she buried him in the back yard. This was back when I was in elementary school and I haven't had another pet since. I'd like to have another dog though. I hope that new puppy in your future brings you as much happiness as my pets did. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DNky6xJ5Jv4/SKGILM2iG9I/AAAAAAAAACQ/XP94vDdi1yg/s400/thumbs-up.jpg
Thanks.

You really should get yourself a dog. There's nothing like it in the entire world.

I've had several pets, but the one death that really hit me was the dog named Dino. He was one when my family left on a trip then we came back and found out he was poisoned. It was most likely my former neighbors that did it, as they had tons of cats.

Last year my backyard fence was blown away and two of my dogs ran away, Lily and Lauren Conrad (don't ask). Toby and Silver are smart enough to know they have it good here and since then we have added four new members to the house: Underdog: Weimaraner, Cookie: Labrador, Bunny:IDK, and Wade S. Ridley: The laziest and most entitled cat I've ever loved.

I'm sorry to here that :(

I know what you're feeling. Our family lost two dogs within 6 months of each other, both to cancer. My other dog is also starting to show signs of age and I'm worried about losing him too. You'll move on though and be ready for other pets in time.

Daystar, words do not describe how sorry I am to hear that you've lost your dog. I can't extend my condolences to you enough. I haven't lost a close pet since I was around 8 or 9, and even then, she wasn't really my dog, she was my sister's, so I wouldn't really know how you feel right now. But, I'm really sorry.
I'm sorry I don't have much more to say.

I lost my dog Floppy many years ago. First thing in my life I ever really loved. I owe her a lot. She lives on in my internet name.

Very sorry to hear that, feeling for you.

I recently got my first dog (a ridgeback, 10 months now) and she has been the bright spark in my life. I can understand why you are so upset, dogs truly are mans best friend.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is never easy - they're really more part of the family than anything. I lost my beloved dog, Woody, while I was in high school. I still miss him, but I believe he's in a better place now.

I'm so sorry to hear about that :( It's so sad. Pets are so special. Happily I haven't recently lost any cats to tragedy but I have had kitties die of old age at like 20. Its helps to know that have had a good innings and a nice life.

Claudia wants you to draw her like one of your french girls.

I'm sorry to hear that. My dog died back in September, and I can't recall being as sad as I was then. Don't worry, eventually happy memories of the time you spent together do eclipse the sadness of his loss. Best of luck for the future.
