My empty arsenal

Modern shooters. Theres nothing especially wrong with them, at least no more so than any other genre, but something's been troubling me lately. Why oh why must we only be allowed to carry two weapons at a time?

Playing Resistance 2 was fun, but something nagged at me, so I decided to try Resistance 1 to
see if it made any difference.

It made a difference.

I found myself with access to two entirely separate weapon selection wheels with at least 8-12 available guns on each for my shooting pleasure. I felt like a one man walking castle of doom, until I put in a more recent shooter and found myself limited to two whole options with which to dispatch my enemy. Um, yay I guess?

So my question is, do you miss being able to carry around two dozen guns at a time, a'la Doom, Turok and Resistance? Or do you think being restricted to a limited arsenal brings you one step closer to "realism"? Or maybe you think there's a middle ground that can be reached?

Personally I think its become a complete pain that drags the experience down, and that my badass super soldier with biceps the size of tractor tyres should be able to lug around at least a few extra guns. (I should probably also point out that it was because of the incredibly diverse and inventive yet flashy weapons in Resistance that provoked this thought)

What are your thoughts?

Yes and no. In CoD for example, I doesn't really make a difference cause I just pick up any machine gun and go nuts, its not really restricting. But I personally prefer it ala Half Life

Well, it can wreak havoc with controls in some games. And weapon weels are usually laggy, framey, and unresponsive. When it works, though, it's great.

usually, choosing guns boils down to "grab the biggest I can find" which works most of the time.
That's why I don't care if I can hold on to 2 guns, or the entire british Arsenal, I'll just use that one big gun.

That's also the reason I play bass,
bigger instrument
lower notes
????
profit?

Depends on the types of weapons you get:

Wacky Weapons = Either one
15 different Assault Rifles = 2 Weapon Limit
Wacky Weapons with one Assault Rifle in the mix = MUST be unlimited carry limit (as otherwise the assault rifle will be the only weapon you use)
you mean you would like halo better if you could carry all the weapons at once? Cause that doesn't sound like a bad idea

If the guns are worthwhile, i prefer to have a space for every gun in the game. Whole "two weapons" business allows for easy management with D-Pad, sure... but i'm a PC gamer, i have a mouse wheel! So i'd rather have everything ready and at hand.

If the guns are not worthwhile, i can get by with two at a time.

I like having a selection of weapons, it allows for variety of strategies. In a game like Modern Warfare (I don't actually own it, just an example of it) where the only real difference is bullet spread, slight damage difference and clip size, 2 guns can usually do it.
