Modern shooters. Theres nothing especially wrong with them, at least no more so than any other genre, but something's been troubling me lately. Why oh why must we only be allowed to carry two weapons at a time?
Playing Resistance 2 was fun, but something nagged at me, so I decided to try Resistance 1 to
see if it made any difference.
It made a difference.
I found myself with access to two entirely separate weapon selection wheels with at least 8-12 available guns on each for my shooting pleasure. I felt like a one man walking castle of doom, until I put in a more recent shooter and found myself limited to two whole options with which to dispatch my enemy. Um, yay I guess?
So my question is, do you miss being able to carry around two dozen guns at a time, a'la Doom, Turok and Resistance? Or do you think being restricted to a limited arsenal brings you one step closer to "realism"? Or maybe you think there's a middle ground that can be reached?
Personally I think its become a complete pain that drags the experience down, and that my badass super soldier with biceps the size of tractor tyres should be able to lug around at least a few extra guns. (I should probably also point out that it was because of the incredibly diverse and inventive yet flashy weapons in Resistance that provoked this thought)
