I have had my xbox for over three years and until now i have never had xbox live for various reasons... Being on the escapist forums in recent months have not exactly made me very willing to bother getting xbox live but i had a little extra cash so i got the cable and membership card necessary.

The first two hours i spent playing borderlands which is fun when people work TOGETHER but my experience wasn't that enjoyable when the only person with a mic sounds as young as my nephew and twice as annoying especially when he got in the gun turret and started blasting me while i was trying to get ammo..

After borderlands i was not very keen to try my hand at another match so i decided to try bioshock which was better experience at first because no body was speaking. Then i stopped to eat a little something and came back and another person had a mic active but he wasn't that bad to hear unless he sung...

Now i've seen a lot of posts that really put a lot of hate on xbox live and to be honest i didn't find it that bad.

So why all the hate on xbox live?

Edit- I don't get angered by people saying curse words, i usually laugh or just ignore/mute them.

Edit2- So it must be good not to have mw2 and halo

I use this as an example to why I don't really care much for the Xbox Live community.

Intolerance and a general dislike in most cases. It's why I hate Modern Warfare 2, I don't have the patience for the microphone spammers and I just generally dislike them.

Xbox Live though has it's fair bunch of trolls from what I hear, the PS3 is probably worse though with free online and (free?) headsets.

I really like Xbox Live. Its fun to play with different people.

I know people can be assholes, but I don't let it get to me. If there are annoying spammers, I just go somewhere else.

I like xbox live just not most of the people in it. Many of them are the annoying 10-12 year olds with the grating voices who keep telling you "you're such a noob" and "I F****D your mum" Although there have been exceptions that is generally the type of people I run into. Probably because I play games like MW2.

overall its alot of way over hyped nonsense, its just other people trying to justify why they dont have a 360 and are fanboy's for whatever they use

i have found it equally annoying across all systems, wether its snobby hosts booting you for being good or annoying people playing songs and whatnot through their mics, its the same mostly across all systems, it was just slightly worse during the halo era as nearly everyone in the world had a taste of that game

Play MW2. Whenever you get a kill, someone will be screaming and complaining about how whatever you did was cheap or you are a dirty modder or how you are Jewish or that your grandmother gave them sexual favors or something.

Really, 8/10s of the people on Live are 8 or dicks, the others are either nice people or they don't use a mic.

I usually mute everyone except for people I know. This works, as I almost NEVER get rage-ful.

they are all like dude you ****** everyone knows that the vector is the gayest while they are using the ump and that is what we call situational irony

Oh I didn't realise it was delibitatingly boring story time...

So the moral is... 'Xbox live is a waste of money'?

No they don't give out free headsets, imagine the wonder of that!?
It is however still full of thirteen year olds who think they rule the galaxy (at least until their parents shout at them to get off the game).

Because a general amount of the people populating the xbox live community are either ego-inflating jockheads, ignortant and retarded racists, and underage kids who shouldn't be playing the games they are and complain the whole time.

I rarely get any of the annoying mic-using types, but just today I was playing Splinter Cell: Conviction, and the first dude tea-bagged me whenever he got the chance, and the other dude ignored all stealth and just went on and used the assault rifle. My God, was that annoying.

The hate on Xbox Live comes from games with kids just like the one you found in Borderlands: except in MW2 or Halo 3 or (insert multiplayer game here) there are DOZENS of kids there. Additionally, the vulgarity and horrible behavior increases exponentially as you add more kids to the mix.

I once calculated the dick-head factor, it comes out to something like 3x^2 - 9x + 8.4638 more vulgarity for each 1 additional kid.

Keep playing and I'm sure you'll learn the ways of the force and become an Xbox Live hater like the rest of us.

If not, then you're a better man than I.
In the meantime, have fun bro.

Why does that hate happen? Because live is full of pubescent nerds, who make fun of Gays being insecure in their own sexuality. Only a guy who is insecure with himself will need to be racist, sexist or homophobic. (Same with girls but vice-versa)

It's a double edged sword in my opinion. Even though there's the fact that you WILL be called a gay Jewish black person at least once in your XBox experience, there's always chances that you might stumble onto something like this.

Or because the person who makes that name is a troll/attention whore?
Even if he was, he didn't provoke them. They just started acting that way. Serious or not, he proved a point about live. There are a lot of bigots on there.

You're going to get that anywhere you go. Hate to break it to you.
I'm on PC, XBL, PSN and Wii and you meet stupid people all the time.

But if you're bothered by teamwork, good fucking luck finding good teammates on ANY sort of system. Good teammates are a very rare commodity. On PSN you get douches in MAG who want to run ahead and say "Fuck you" to the squad (assholes). Also, is it just me, or does it seem like a lot of people yell for no reason?
I have made a few good friends on PSN though. :)

I think XBL has such a bad rep because everyone had mics. Yes, there are a lot of young kids on it, but I use the blessed mute button and never hear them again. I will agree, there are a lot of rotten apples on XBL, but I've made many great friends and have known some for two years and have even met some.

I can't speak for the Wii community, since most people don't talk... And the Wii speaks sucks so hard that I just turn off mic volume.

On the PC, good luck trying to find a person who will level grind with you, selfish fucker, I wanna be level 50 in City of Heroes. Whiny bastards.

Anywho, I think I got waaaaayyyy off track. The point is, I would give anything more than one try. I think out of Wii, PSN and XBL, XBL is my favorite, I don't mind paying for it because it's always been very reliable and I've never had any sort of problems.

Some hate belongs on the payment required for a gold account. They complain about Microsoft requiring to charge, although they don't think about how much they spend repairing Red Ring of Death. Most of the rest is on the little kids when playing any popular first person shooter such as Halo 3, Gears of War 2, or Modern Warfare 2. They will yell and complain at/about you for killing them and "ruining their nuke." Although few people ignore the kids and mute them, many will counter back with cursing and trash talk. It would be better if people realized that there is a mute option while playing on Xbox Live and also realized that they can submit a player review to have a lesser chance of playing with them. Oh well, you can do many things, but you can't fix stupid.

If you're looking for a decent gaming community, then it's hard to go wrong with the players of Team Fortress 2. The teamwork's not always there (TEAM NO MEDICS IS A GO!), but they behave themselves (for the most part, that is).
