Sorry if you just saw this thread with no text
I received Far Cry 2 in the post the other week and popped it straight into the PS3.
I had no knowledge of the Far Cry series other then that Far Cry and FC2 aren't actually related from what I have heard as I never played the first ones campaign mode.
Straight away I was greeted by what sounded like genuine African music and I thought, this is going to be a great game, and when the game started I was amazed, sitting in the backseat of the Jeep-cab I found myself looking around the lush safari around me and listening to the Cabby tell me all I would need to know, he was a great way to start the game off. After a long (but enjoyable) drive I was dropped off in a city in the centre of the map, and shortly passed out due to malaria. After waking up in the house with the Jackel; I actually felt scared as he spoke in such a menacing voice and then when it was time to leave I was amazed by the sudden outburst of war. Then some tutorial missions followed, but they didn't feel like actually tutorials as they were quite well hidden.
After these tutorials my map was suddenly about 4 times larger and I thought 'WOW!'
But soon I started to see some problems:
Weapon degregation has never and probably never will work, running out of ammo in the middle of a firefight and then picking up a dead soldiers weapon only for it too jam is a very large break of flow.
Malaria + the need to take pills also breaks flow, as does pulling out bullets, shrapnel or putting out burns.
Missions are quite samey and having both factions against you + no way of befriending a faction or such is a bit annoying as this leaves you high-and-dry nearly 24/7
However aside from these minor problems I have very much enjoyed my FarCry2 and will definitely play it through to the end and look forward to any plot-twists,unlockables and the online community and will look forward to a sequel in the future.
I would heartily recommend this game to anyone who enjoys FPS' and anyone who likes a challenge
P.S. The fire physics are amazing and add to the experience E.G a sniper who you can't see in the bushes is pinning you down, a quick pop-out of cover and a lob of a molatov and bam - he's down and anyone near him is.
