What has begun, you ask? The answer is simple.

So, taking bets on when Hyper Deluxe Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Director's Cut: Turbo Champion ReMix comes out. Any takers? I give it two years.

Edit: Anywho, seems like the point of the thread went over the heads of some people. Do you think that Street Fighter IV is going down the same path as Street Fighter II, or is it staying on the no-midquel route that Street Fighter III stayed on?

No one is making you buy this, most people who do buy it buy it because they love the fighting game, and it usually brings out balance patches and new characters. Please stop whining.

And noone is (probably) making you post here. And yet you did.

In short: Haters gonna hate.

Anywho, I love the Street Fighter series. Which is exactly why I can see where it's going. The same place Street Fighter II went. It's a very dark place, full of Grues.

Not a word.

OT: Your point being? They usually add something with these modes that make people want to buy them, and there is nothing wrong with that.

I beg to differ. His post suggested why such a re-release might be done, and why people might buy it. This offers a counter of sorts to your original post, and is thus an integral part of the discussion value of this thread.

Anyway, meh. I'm guessing the 'arcade edition' bit is new? To put it into western terms, it's exactly the same as a 'game of the year' version - a couple of updates/patches included, any DLC/bonus features now on the disk, and you're good to go at full price again, it seems.

Well, no one would expect him to stab you with his hair...

...something that would totally work.

Not really. I know exactly why re-releases are done, (and they shouldn't be. Wasn't the entire point of DLC originally to take care of what needed to be taken care of without having to release an entirely new game?) but that wasn't the point of the thread at all. I added the point, since most people didn't seem to get it. Then again, my mind is strange at times.

Well, I'm not too big on Street Fighter, since GG and BB and more my thing, but it looks to me like these patches coming out change up the gameplay just like any other fighting game re-release out there, only this time you actually have to pay for the patches to be implemented either through DLC or with another retail purchase. These new characters are optional, as "normal" SSF4 people can download a free update kit which allows them to play against people using the arcade edition with their older gameplay mechanics, minus the new characters. Personally, paying for new patches seems like a pain to me, but I buy DLC characters all the time for my fighting games so it doesn't keep me from spending money :p At least the most recent patch of BB was free, so I'm not complaining there.

Also "Capcom community manager Seth Killian announced that the Arcade Edition will be the final version of the Street Fighter IV series."
-Wikipedia, "Super Street Fighter IV"

Don't know if we can trust that statement or not. Who knows?

The real problem is one that has been mentioned by several writers for this site: Fans of games happily spending $40-60 on what is essentially an expansion pack, or DLC update. Capcom's representatives have repeatedly stated and promised they would not do this kind of thing (Super-Hyper-Champion-Arcade-3D-Ultimate-Round3-Megamix-We-Are-Tired-Of-Making-Actual-New-Games-Edition)with Street Fighter IV, but like a junkie it's hard for them to resist the urge and they're surrounded by enablers.
I haven't yet bought a copy of any version of Street Fighter IV because I knew this was going to happen. I also knew that I have a friend that compulsively buys anything Street Fighter related (owns a copy of every game, and EVERY TIME he gets a new phone) and could count on him to shell out his hard-earned money for a game that would be played for five months and replaced, then replaced, then replaced. I just borrow his copies of the previous versions if I feel the need to play the game. I'm a Street Fighter fan, and will be happy to buy a copy as soon as I know that it's the FINAL VERSION OF THE GODDAMN GAME.
What if every single game ever made was like the Street Fighter series? If Bungie came out with Halo 3 with only half of the missions, multiplayer maps, multiplayer modes, and weapons, then came out with a new version with twenty-five percent more content, THEN came out with a third version that added the last two missions and vehicles... People would still cough up the cash, and thank the developers for it.
So I think the problem the creator of this thread really has is the same as just about every thread attacking specific games: The fanatics and the willfully ignorant. Stop rewarding these companies for their greed, demand better products for your money, and don't ever try to defend people who just see you as their next paycheck.
Plus, I WANT GOTCHA FORCE 2 CAPCOM, OR I'M GOING TO FIND YOU WHILE YOU SLEEP!

Yeah, it annoys me too. So much that I think I'm done buying fighters (at least from Capcom). The real problem is that each new version fragments the game's community further. So even if you don't want to buy it, it affects you.

Well, can't say I'm surprised. This is Capcom after all, company of a million copy-paste sequels and expansions (yet refuse to finish the completely awesome Viewtiful Joe series...but that's another topic).

I've never been much of a Street Fighter fan, and quite frankly this is one of the reasons why. By the time I've gotten the hang of the game, they've already released three overpriced expansions that only make very minor changes.

Sorry, I think I've missed something somewhere.
They're referring to Street Fighter II being remade half a dozen times before SF3 ever came out. Yeah. Capcom does this a lot with Street Fighter. It's bullshit.

They also released this as DLC for anyone who already has Super Street Fighter 4 so they didn't have to go and buy another disc. So I actually don't see the problem. The retail release is simply for those who don't already have the game, and now they have the most up-to-date version. If they actually were re-releasing the game over and over again, I'd be the FIRST one making jokes about it.

Now then, Capcom, about that Marvel vs Capcom 3 DLC...
