My girlfriend won't stop talking about her period

Just be a bigger dick than she's being a *****, simple as that. Loudly responding with things like "The reason your cramps are so bad is because you have diarreah running out of your mouth along with the blood gushing out of your twat" can go a long way. My wife gave up trying to make me uncomfortable in public a long, long time ago.

The misogyny in this thread irritates, but does not surprise me.

Considering how much dick talk women have put up with since the beginning of time, but women can't talk about periods? Periods aren't that gross. Grow up, children. Periods can even be kind of interesting, if you're one of those rare freaks that menstruates.
Stupid girls, always wanting to TALK about their LIVES and things that are RELEVANT to them. the OP's girlfriend must not have been brainwashed enough as a child to feel deep shame and secrecy about her natural body functions. She must be reprogrammed to keep her discomfort to herself, even from her partner who is supposed to care about her and support her.

Do this girl a favor and dump her, because she deserves someone that isn't such a wiener about this stuff.

I'm gonna skip all the above and just answer this question: it depends on the girl. Basically, when a girl is on her period her body is practicing giving birth. And yes, just like giving birth to an actual baby, it's extremely bloody and disgusting. The hormones swing, you can get really bloated, you often feel really disgusting, you can get morning sickness (throwing up), and then there's the cramps (which is your body going through mock preparations of spitting out a baby). I had a friend once who got so sick on her period that she had to stay in bed all day. I've had days where I couldn't make it to class and just feel like shouting, screaming, and rolling all over the floor because it hurt so badly. I'd describe it (at it's worst) like being kneed in the groin for hours. (Boys never believe me when I say that though and I have been kneed in the groin. Shocker, girls have lots of nerve endings there too boys. Just not as many.)

But instead of nine months, it's at most a week.

Seriously though, it sounds like she's doing it just to gross you out and if it's really bothering you just tell her to stop. If she cares about you she'll respect that. If she doesn't, go with the flow (accidental pun) and talk about something that she finds really disgusting. After all, fair's fair.

And if the above grossed you out, then tough, you wanted to know. :p

Fear no more I have the most horrible profound solution to your troubles involving her troubles!

Become very serious and look her gently in the eye.

Move in real close and gently caress her cheek slightly pulling back her hair as you lean in even further, mouth inches away from her ear, and whisper sweetly and softly........

"You have no idea how hard this conversation is making me right now." Then preform your best sexy growl.

*bonus points awarded if you place her hand on your crotch*

When faced with a troll always attempt the reverse troll.

All other advice should be disregarded when faced with this pearl of wisdom. You're Welcome!

Yeah, because not wanting to talk about genital bleeding is totally misogynist.

Get over yourself. I'm near positive everyone here knows that periods are at least uncomfortable for women, that does NOT mean that they should talk about them all the bloody time. What the OP has described has gone far beyond 'talking about her life'. She's deliberately bringing it up to make him uncomfortable, and that's pretty much the definition of trolling.

Suggest that pregnancy can easily solve her period problem?
I'm pretty sure that could have some unwanted side effects. Like... pregnancy.

...and are people really that uncomfortable talking about menstrual periods? Maybe it's just 'cos I grew up with three sisters but it doesn't freak me out at all.

Start acting as if you're completely turned on by her stories and then tell her that you're ready for a rigorous steamy sex session with her bloody snatch any time of the day.

It varies from person to person. Some women don't even realise they're on; others (like me) are in excruciating agony from day one. And it's not just pain - it can interfere with your sleep cycle, emotions, appetite and influence headaches and migraines.

Imagine somebody sticks a bicycle pump into your belly button and starts pumping. That's the bloated feeling. Now imagine a hot, searing pain stretching from hip to hip. That's the pain. Now imagine that you can't sleep at night. At all. That's the insomnia. And finally, imagine that no matter what you do, you feel angry, frustrated and sad all at once, and you can't break out of it. That's the emotional disturbance. Unlucky gals like me get all four of these symptoms for a week to 12 days, every single month.

Next time your girlfriend complains, give her a hug and ask if she wants some chocolates. I promise, you will be her hero.

It can get pretty bad. I think it's the hardest on girls who are either out of shape, or really skinny. No matter what though, there's very little that can help. Some girls don't want to be touched at all, because they feel oozy-disgusting or are wracked by terrible pains. I'm one of the lucky ones that actually find hardcore intercourse helps. Although it usually hurts more later.

Yes, and I find it... utterly disgusting.

I have already shown how much I don't want her to talk about stuff like that, but she does it now to toy with me for she loves seeing me miserable XD

The whole conversation at lunch was about how much pain she's in/ she was fine in the morning/ talking to her other feminine friend about tampons/ asking ME if I use tampons, etc.

I don't want it to be like that tomorrow or any other day, so what should I do?

By the way, for bonus discussion, how bad IS it really? o_O
Oh, man, you motherfuckers should be damn happy you don't have to suffer through it. :/

Imagine those discs they throw in the Olympics? You know, the frisbee like things?

Yeah, now imagine having that nailed through your lower torso unremovable for at least two to three days, all you want to do is curl into a ball and whine.

Something like that. Or knives being stabbed at you from the inside. Tell her honestly, in a respectful manner that you really don't like it when she talks about it, but if you ask me, you need to get over it a little, your girlfriend's not gonna stop having her period once a month for many, many years ahead. It is a natural process, but I do understand that you feel uncomfortable, but try to be more understanding when she talks about how much it hurts.

EDIT: Also this:

Okay, thread won. I just fell out of my chair. Nothing can top that.

For you:

EDIT: Okay, I don't really have much to contribute to this topic, but I will say I have the same problem with my sister (which I think is arguably worse). I just got desensitized to it after awhile.I think you just gotta grin and bear it for awhile.

That's the hardest i've laughed all day, well done.

I'm a girl and talking about it weirds me out, some things are just better not shared.
Well it's nice to be conclusively right. *adjusts balls*

Seriously though, a coupon? Just give me cash value! *readjusts balls... thoroughly*

That is not what a period is... when a women is menstruating an egg is released so it can unite with the sperm and become fertilized, if it doesn't unite with the sperm its then pushed out and disposed of with bodily liquids. Technically its not even that blood, there is only a small amount of blood mixed with other liquids.

Just a question, Where did you learn about periods?

Deal with it? If you're going to be dating a girl, you're going to have to hear about it every now and then. Either get used to it or become a monk, because you really don't have a choice.

And, on the bright side of it (with my girlfriend anyway), after the first day or two they tend to become rather horny. You might not want to have actual intercourse until after the whole thing's run its course, but it's a good opportunity to get some 'other stuff' in. It's also an excellent opportunity to earn brownie points. "What, you're just started? Well, I just happen to have some chocolates sitting around here somewhere, and I can give you a back rub if it would help at all..." tends to work wonders, although it'll vary a bit from girl to girl.

There are other perks to it too. Live with it long enough and you'll start to be able to recognize when it's going on with other women. Then you get to know what to say (and not say), how to act, and so on around them, which can lead to other good things. Trust me on that one.

Say 'Yeah, I hate getting them too' and see how she reacts.
1. Strange look
2. ??? 3. PROFIT

2. crazy laughter with hyperventilated gasps

3. other friend poking her in the side to get her to calm down, which just makes her jump and let out this weird suprised noise

4. her head meets the desk.

5. "go away" XD

Strange thing is, that is EXACTLY what would happen.....
You're exactly right...

Anyway, just go with it. If it's something she wants to talk about, just listen--even if it grosses you out. The more you fight it, the more she'll tell you..well...the more you listen, the more she'll tell you, too, but at least she'll be happy knowing that she can talk to you about it.

Sounds like she's found your trigger and milking it for all it's worth. Ignore her and she'll probably shut up about it, as it'll be no fun.
The other way of dealing with it... is realising it's just a natural process and not really that scary.

Bonus discussion: Depends on the individual, and certain environmental factors. For some, it can be a really terrible time (been there, had that), or it can be pretty much ignored, barring the fact of having to regularly go to the bathroom. Being on "the pill" you don't exactly have a period, so it tends to be not as bad. Before I was on the pill, ibuprofen tended to work well when I was having a bad time of the month. (tho the person that recommended it to me, it didn't work much if at all for her lol)

Just a question, Where did you learn about periods?
I was describing the symptoms of what can happen to a girl on her period. That is the technical definition, but really doesn't cover what the OP really wanted to know. (The cramps can and do simulate contractions to a much lesser degree than the birthing process but I was being facetious). However, it should probably be noted that a girl can experience a range of symptoms while on her period that are very similar to what she will experience when she's pregnant. Hormone swings, general moodiness, bloating i.e really gassy, depression, swollen ankles, morning sickness, the cramps are the notorious one, aching muscles, wanting strange foods, etc. Which is why I joke about it being like "your body practicing giving birth". Though, when you sterilize it like it doesn't sound like that much of a bother. (Maybe it's not for you.) Yes, I learned the scientific definition like everyone else in the fifth grade. There were videos, the boys and girls went "EWWW!".

I call it blood because it's convenient, because it's red, and because it gushes out for seven days along with other pieces of the wall that haven't completely dissolved. You're right it's not blood, but for the sake of convenience (and it being somewhere around 1 to 3 in the goddamn morning when I wrote that) lets just call it that.

Where did I learn about periods? In science class, from a book my parents gave me, and by experiencing them every goddamn month.

And yes, it's still like being kicked in the ovaries by a mule.
