I was hiking today, and I thought of this:
Ok, so the idea of the game is to be an Elder Scrolls style action/ RPG. The twist is that it's set in feudal Japan, and the combat isn't first person, it's 3rd person Devil-May-Cry style combat: fast paced and stylish, but more grounded in reality than DMC. You play as a ronin making a pilgrimage across the land. It's inspired by/ set in the universe of Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo comics.
Edit: There's a minor survival element to it, where you have to gather food and find safe places to sleep. The overarching plot involves... delivering a bonsai to a lord on the other end of the island. Your companions consist of a courier (who carries the bonsai of peace),
a warrior monk setting out to find the clan of ninjas who destroyed his temple, and ninja woman who scouts out locations for you. The leveling system is similar to any other RPG, but you gain experience based on being honorable or not. ie: You gain skills and abilities from being honorable (solving disputes with a minimum of violence, helping citizens), but on the flipside you gain strength and power fro corrupt actions.
What do you think of it? Any ideas that could make it better?
