This time I wish to ask you... What exactly is a "Meme"?

LOL catz is the main example, but basically a joke that starts somewhere and slowly spreads and evolves due to countless people adding their own touches and adjustments to it.

Videos, sounds, images, or phrases that get repeated and mutated. Rick rolling, lolcats, and popular image macros are good examples.

Could it also be something that someone uses in message boards/threads to draw attention to themselves or their work, as in;

"Look at Me-Me!"?

I know that's not how 'Meme' is supposed to be pronounced ("meam"), I'm just offering another interpretation.
