While I like the series, I keep getting the sinking suspicion that the show has been leaning towards pandering to kids for the past few seasons now...

Still it's probably good that the show is coming to an end so that it doesn't go on forever...

There's Lyra and Bonbon, Scootaloo's aunts and its kinda pretty implied that Rainbow and Aj are together.

I would really say that the first season is the most kiddified of them all. It does have some of that, which you have to expect from a western cartoon.

Its not gonna. Its been 9 years and if FRIENDS, Park and Rec and the Office are still a thing, despite a distinct, noticeable and painful lack of ponies in all those shows, then you better believe Ponies will still be a thing decades from now.

Potentially, though if there was a season that arguably became kidified, it would be season 8 with the Young Six and School of Friendship. Apart from that, easily the most 'kiddy' season is the first one.
