My mouse won't work

Over the past week, I've noticed that everytime I plug in my mouse, it'll play the connected sound, and the moment I go to click, it plays the disconnected sound. It wouldn't bother me so much if my laptop's trac pad wasn't so pressure sensitive. I've had the mouse since about 2008, so could it just be I've worn it down? Should I buy a new one? Or is there something I can do about it?

I've tried that, it only gets recognized by the port I've used it in the most.
